«Փաստ» օրաթերթը գրում է.

 Ժամանակակից մեքենաների մեծ մասն այսօր հագեցած է ավտոմատ փոխանցման տուփերով, թեպետ, մասնավորաբար եվրոպական շատ երկրներում դեռևս նախընտրում են մեխանիկական փոխանցման տուփերը:

Իսկ ո՞վ էր ավտոմատ փոխանցման տուփի հեղափոխության ռահվիրան, և ո՞ր մեքենան էր առաջինը, որը վերացրեց ձեռքով աշխատանքի անհրաժեշտությունը:

Ավտոմատ փոխանցման տուփերի ստեղծման առաջին փորձերը կատարվել են դեռևս 19-րդ դարում: Ֆրանսիացիներ Լուի-Ռենե Պանհարը և Էմիլ Լևասորը ներկայացրել էին ավտոմատ փոխանցման տուփի իրենց տարբերակը դեռևս 1894 թվականին: Բայց եղավ ձախողում, մեխանիզմը փչացավ ցուցադրությունից անմիջապես առաջ, ուստի ցուցադրելու փոխարեն ինժեներները ստիպված էին ամեն ինչ բացատրել կավիճով՝ գրատախտակի վրա:

Այնուհետև՝ 1904 թվականին, ամերիկացի Ստուրտևանտ եղբայրներն արտոնագրեցին առաջին ավտոմատ փոխանցման տուփերից մեկը: Նրանց համակարգը պարզունակ էր. ընդամենը երկու փոխանցում՝ հիմնված կենտրոնախույս ուժի սկզբունքի վրա: Շարժիչի պտույտների ավելացմանը զուգընթաց դուրս շարժվող քաշի միջոցով միանում էին տարբեր ճանկեր, ինչը թույլ էր տալիս մեքենային ավտոմատ կերպով իրականացնել փոխանցումները: Չնայած այդ կառուցվածքը թվում էր հնարամիտ իր ժամանակի համար, բայց հեռու էր հուսալի լինելուց: Փոխանցման ճանկերը կարող էին բառացիորեն պոկվել շահագործման ընթացքում, ինչը վարորդների համար հաճելի փորձառություն չէր: Ավելին, Sturtevant մեքենաները շատ թանկ էին, և 1907 թվականին ընկերությունն ամբողջությամբ դադարեցրեց արտադրությունը։

Գրեթե երկու տասնամյակ անց՝ 1921 թվականին, կանադացի ինժեներ Ալֆրեդ Հորներ Մոնրոն ներկայացրեց ավելի առաջադեմ գաղափար՝ չորս արագությամբ ավտոմատ փոխանցման տուփ պնևմատիկ ակտիվացմամբ: Չնայած օդը որպես աշխատանքային հեղուկ օգտագործելն անիրագործելի էր, փոխանցումները կառավարելու գաղափարը՝ հիմնված գազի (և ոչ միայն շարժիչի արագության) վրա, շատ ավելի արդյունավետ էր, քան Sturtevant-ի գաղափարը։

Իրական առաջընթաց տեղի ունեցավ 1930-ականներին երկու բրազիլացի ինժեներ Ֆեռնանդո Լելի Լեմոսի և Խոսե Բրազո Արիպեի շնորհիվ: Նրանք Մոնրոյի կառուցվածքի օդը փոխարինեցին հիդրավլիկ հեղուկով՝ համակարգը դարձնելով շատ ավելի հուսալի: Նրանց գյուտը գրավեց General Motors-ի ուշադրությունը, որը 1932 թվականին ձեռք բերեց նախագիծը, և 1940 թվականին շուկա մտավ առաջին իսկապես զանգվածային արտադրության ավտոմատ փոխանցման տուփը՝ լեգենդար Hydra-Matic-ը։ Այդ փոխանցման տուփն առաջին անգամ 1940 թվականին հայտնվեց Oldsmobile մեքենաներում, իսկ հետո՝ հաջորդ տարի, Cadillac-ներում։ Hydra-Matic-ը ոչ միայն վերացրեց վարորդների կողմից փոխանցումները ձեռքով կատարելու անհրաժեշտությունը, այլ նաև այնքան հուսալի էր, որ այն նույնիսկ օգտագործվել է Երկրորդ համաշխարհային պատերազմի տանկերում՝ M5 Stuart-ում և M24 Chaffee-ում։

Այսօր դժվար է պատկերացնել, որ ավտոմատ փոխանցման տուփերը մի ժամանակ թանկարժեք և անհուսալի նորարարություն էին թվում։ Այնուամենայնիվ, ամեն ինչ կարող էր այլ կերպ դասավորվել, եթե այդ գաղափարը տարածում չգտներ։
