Իրանի արտգործնախարար Աբաս Արաղչին կիրակի օրը NBC News-ին տված հարցազրույցում հայտարարել է, որ նոր առաջնորդին ընտրում է Իրանի ժողովուրդը, և ոչ թե ԱՄՆ նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփը, և պահանջել է, որ ԱՄՆ նախագահը ներողություն խնդրի Իրանի դեմ պատերազմ սկսելու համար։

«Մենք ոչ մեկին չենք թույլ տալիս միջամտել մեր ներքին գործերին։ Իրանի ժողովուրդը պետք է ընտրի իր նոր առաջնորդին», – ասել է Արաղչին։

Նա նաև բացառել է այն հնարավորությունը, որ սպանված առաջնորդի՝ այաթոլլա Ալի Խամենեիի որդին՝ Մոջթաբա Խամենեին, փոխարինի իր հորը։ Միևնույն ժամանակ Արաղչին չի հստակեցրել, թե ով է լինելու հաջորդը։

«Մենք պետք է սպասենք, մինչև հավաքվի Փորձագետների խորհուրդը և քվեարկի նոր գերագույն առաջնորդի և նրա օգտին, ով նրանց կողմից ընտրվի», – ասել է նա։

Իրանի ԱԳՆ ղեկավարը նաև նշել է, որ Թրամփը «պետք է ներողություն խնդրի տարածաշրջանի բնակիչներից և իրանական ժողովրդից այն սպանությունների և ավերածությունների համար, որոնք նրանք իրականացրել են մեր դեմ»։

Արաղչին պաշտպանել է Իրանի հարվածները, որոնք հասցվել են Մերձավոր Արևելքի հարևան երկրներին՝ հայտարարելով, որ այդ հարվածները ուղղված էին տարածաշրջանում գտնվող ամերիկյան բազաներին, քանի որ իրանական հրթիռները չեն կարող հասնել Միացյալ Նահանգներին։

«Ամերիկացիներն են սկսել այս պատերազմը՝ հարձակվելով մեզ վրա, իսկ մենք պաշտպանվում ենք։ Այսպիսով, պարզ է, որ մեր հրթիռները չեն կարող հասնել ԱՄՆ տարածքին։ Այն, ինչ մենք կարող ենք անել, դա մեր շուրջը գտնվող ամերիկյան բազաներն ու օբյեկտները թիրախավորելն է, որոնք, ցավոք, գտնվում են մեր հարևան երկրների տարածքում», – ասել է Արաղչին։

Ավելի վաղ ԱՄՆ նախագահը հայտարարել էր, որ ինքն անպայման պետք է ներգրավված լինի Իրանի նոր գերագույն առաջնորդի ընտրության հարցում։
