Վրացական կողմը Ամենայն Հայոց Կաթողիկոս Գարեգին Բ-ին հրավիրել է մասնակցելու կաթողիկոս-պատրիարք Իլիա Երկրորդի հուղարկավորությանը, սակայն Հայ առաքելական եկեղեցու առաջնորդին արգելվում է լքել երկիրը։ Այս մասին հայտարարել է Վրաց ուղղափառ եկեղեցու Ախալքալաքի, Կումուրդայի և Կարիայի թեմի միտրոպոլիտ Նիկոլոզ Պաչուաշվիլին։

«Ամենայն հայոց կաթողիկոսը ցանկանում է գալ։ Նրանք շատ մտերիմ հարաբերություններ ունեին։ Սակայն Հայաստանում լուրջ անկարգություններ են, և կաթողիկոսին թույլ չեն տալիս լքել երկիրը։ Մենք հատուկ հրավեր ենք ուղարկել, և եթե նրան թույլ տան, նա կգա», – տեղական լրատվամիջոցներին ասել է միտրոպոլիտը։

Մարտի 19-ին ՀՀ վարչապետ Նիկոլ Փաշինյանը ճեպազրույցի ժամանակ հայտարարել է, որ ՀՀ իշխանությունները չեն քննարկում Գարեգին II-ի՝ վրաց պատրիարքի հուղարկավորությանը մասնակցելու հնարավորությունը։ Փետրվարին Ամենայն հայոց կաթողիկոսի դեմ քրեական գործ է հարուցվել, և դատարանը նրան արգելել է լքել երկիրը։

Հիշեցնենք, որ Իլիա II-ը մահացել է 93 տարեկան հասակում՝ Թբիլիսիի կլինիկայում, մարտի 17-ին։ Համայն Վրաստանի նոր կաթողիկոս-պատրիարքը կընտրվի նախորդ առաջնորդ Իլիա II-ի մահից ոչ շուտ, քան 40 օր և ոչ ուշ, քան երկու ամիս անց։ Վրաց պատրիարքը կթաղվի Սիոնիում կիրակի՝ մարտի 22-ին։
