Մերձավոր Արևելքում լարվածությունը հասել է վտանգավոր աստիճանի՝ վերածվելով փոխադարձ սպառնալիքների և իրական հարվածների շղթայի։ Իրանը, որ երկար ժամանակ պահպանել էր հարաբերական զսպվածություն, այժմ ակնհայտորեն անցել է ավելի կոշտ և հարձակողական գործելաոճի՝ հակամարտությունը տեղափոխելով նոր փուլ։

Տարածաշրջանում տեղի ունեցող զարգացումները արդեն անմիջական ազդեցություն են ունենում Պարսից ծոցի երկրների վրա։ Հաքան Ֆիդանի փոխանցմամբ՝ արաբական երկրները Իրանին խիստ նախազգուշացրել են, որ չեն պատրաստվում հանդուրժել իրենց տարածքների վրա շարունակվող հարվածները։ Նրանք հայտարարում են, որ հակամարտությանը կողմ չեն, և իրենց ենթակառուցվածքների թիրախավորումը համարում են անհիմն ու անընդուենլի՝ պահանջելով պատասխանատվություն Թեհրանից։

Սակայն, հակառակ արտաքին ճնշմանը, Իրանի ներսում նկատվում է հակառակ գործընթաց։ Լարվածությունը հատկապես զգացվում է Իրանի մայրաքաղաքում, որտեղ արձանագրվել են հզոր պայթյուններ։ Դրանց անմիջապես հաջորդել է հակաօդային պաշտպանության համակարգերի ակտիվացում, ինչը վկայում է օդային սպառնալիքների առկայության մասին։ Խոսքը ամերիկյան կամ իսրայելական ծագման անօդաչու սարքերի մասին է, որոնք հայտնվել են Թեհրանի օդային տարածքում։ Այս ֆոնին հստակ ազդակներ է ուղարկում թե՛ տարածաշրջանին, թե՛ իր հակառակորդներին։ Թեհրանը հայտարարել է, որ ցանկացած հարվածի կպատասխանի առանց սահմանափակումների՝ կիրառելով իր ամբողջ ռազմական ներուժը։

Իրանը փաստացի հայտարարում է, որ եթե թիրախավորվեն իր ռազմավարական օբեյկտները, այդ թվում՝ էլեկտրակայանները, ապա պատասխան հարվածները կարող են ուղղվել ոչ միայն անմիջական հակառակորդների, այլ նաև տարածաշրջանի այն ենթակառուցվածքների դեմ, որոնք ապահովում են ամերիկյան ռազմական ներկայությունը։ Միևնույն ժամանակ Իրանը բացահայտորեն սպառնում է նաև Պարսից ծոցի երկրների էներգետիկ և ջրային համակարգերին՝ զգուշացնելով, որ դրանց խափանումը կարող է ունենալ աղետալի հետևանքներ ողջ տարածաշրջանի համար։

Թեհրանը վստահ է իր ռազմական հնարավորությունների վրա՝ պնդելով, որ ունի այնպիսի սպառազինություն, որը կարող է կտրուկ փոխել ուժերի բալանսը և խափանել հակառակորդների ծրագրերը։ Իրանական կողմը համոզված է, որ Միացյալ Նահանգները դեռևս չի պատկերացնում այս հնարավորությունների ամբողջ ծավալը, և «այդ պատկերացումը կարող է ձևավորվել արդեն մարտի դաշտում»։

Տարածաշրջանը կանգնած է վտանգավոր շրջադարձի առաջ, որտեղ յուրաքանչյուր հաջորդ քայլ կարող է ոչ թե զսպել, այլ ընդլայնել հակամարտության սահմանները՝ վերածելով այն լայնամասշտաբ բախման։
