Մոսկվայում 89 տարեկան հասակում կյանքից հեռացել է ականավոր պետական և հասարակական գործիչ Լևոն Գուրգենի Սահակյանը: Նա զգալի ավանդ է ունեցել Հայաստանի զարգացման գործում՝ զբաղեցնելով պատասխանատու պետական պաշտոններ՝ Հայկական ԽՍՀ արհմիությունների խորհրդի նախագահի, Հայաստանի կոմկուսի Երևանի քաղկոմի առաջին քարտուղարի և հանրապետության Նախարարների խորհրդի նախագահի առաջին տեղակալի պաշտոնները: Լևոն Սահակյանն ընտրվել է նաև ԽՍՀՄ Գերագույն խորհրդի և Հայկական ԽՍՀ Գերագույն խորհրդի պատգամավոր:
Լևոն Սահակյանի գործունեության մեջ առանձնահատուկ տեղ է զբաղեցնում Սպիտակի ավերիչ երկրաշարժից հետո ընկած ժամանակահատվածը: Ողբերգության առաջին իսկ օրերից նա գլխավորել է մարդկանց փրկության և քաղաքների վերականգնման հանրապետական շտաբը՝ համակարգելով աղետի գոտում իրականացվող բարդագույն աշխատանքները:
Գործընկերներն ու մտերիմները Լևոն Սահակյանին կհիշեն որպես բացառիկ արժանապատվության և մեծ հոգու տեր անհատի, ով մշտապես օգնում էր մարդկանց և կարողանում էր համախմբել նրանց ընդհանուր գործի շուրջ: Իր հարազատների՝ կնոջ, զավակների և թոռների համար նա միշտ եղել է իմաստուն խորհրդատու և ամենաթանկ մարդը: Նրա վառ հիշատակը հավերժ կմնա բոլոր նրանց սրտերում, ովքեր ճանաչել և հարգել են նրան:
