«Փաստ» օրաթերթը գրում է.

Ըմբշամարտը ամենահին մարտարվեստներից է։ Շատ հազարամյակներ մարդիկ պայքարելու հմտություններն օգտագործել են ոչ միայն գոյատևելու կամ զվարճանալու, այլ նաև ֆիզիկական և հոգևոր զարգացման համար: Ժամանակի ընթացքում ըմբշամարտն ավելի բովանդակալից է դարձել և արմատավորվել կյանքում որպես ինքնապաշտպանության համար նախատեսված գործողությունների առանձին համալիր:

Տարեգրություններն ու հին ձեռագրերը վկայում են, որ ըմբշամարտն ամենամեծ ժողովրդականությունը ձեռք է բերել Հին Հունաստանում, որտեղ մ.թ.ա. 704 թվականին այն ներառվել է հնագույն Օլիմպիական խաղերի ծրագրում։ Ըմբշամարտի կանոնների առաջին ստեղծողը եղել է հույն մարզիկ Թեսեուսը։ Այն ժամանակ և՛ Պյութագորասը, և՛ Պլատոնը և՛, իհարկե, Օլիմպիական խաղերի բազմակի հաղթող Միլոն Կրոտոնցին են համարվել ժամանակի հայտնի ըմբիշներ։

Հետագայում հռոմեացիները հաճույքով վերցրել են հույների այդ կիրքը: Բայց նրանց մոտ ըմբշամարտն ավելի շատ նման է եղել բռնցքամարտի կամ գլադիատորական կռվի, իսկ հաղթողներն անմիջապես դարձել են ժողովրդի կուռքերը։

Հետագայում Եվրոպայում հունահռոմեական ըմբշամարտն առավել զարգացում է ստացել Ֆրանսիայում 19-րդ դարի սկզբին, և արդեն եղել են որոշակի կանոններ: Ի տարբերություն ազատ ոճի, հունահռոմեական ոճի ըմբշամարտում ոտքերի հետ ցանկացած գործողություն արգելված է, բռնումներն իրականացվում են միայն ձեռքով, և հաղթում է այն մարզիկը, որն առաջինն է մրցակցի երկու ուսերը դնում գետնին:

Այդ՝ ֆրանսիական ըմբշամարտը, ինչպես այն շարունակել էին որոշները կոչել նույնիսկ մինչև 1948 թվականը, թեպետ վաղուց դրա անունը փոխվել էր, հսկայական ժողովրդականություն է ձեռք բերել հասարակ մարդկանց և կրկեսի արտիստների շրջանում: Ժամանակի ընթացքում սկսել են անցկացվել քաղաքային և ազգային առաջնություններ։ Աշխարհի տարբեր ծայրերից սկսել են մարզիկներ գալ Ֆրանսիա մրցումներին մասնակցելու համար։ Արդյունքում ֆրանսիական ըմբշամարտը համաշխարհային ճանաչում է ձեռք բերել: 1896 թվականին ֆրանսիական ըմբշամարտը վերանվանվել է հունահռոմեականի և հետո ներառվել է ժամանակակից առաջին ամառային Օլիմպիական խաղերի ծրագրում։ 1898 թվականին անցկացվել է Եվրոպայի առաջին առաջնությունը, իսկ 1904 թվականին՝ այդ նոր մարզաձևի աշխարհի առաջնությունը։ 1912 թվականին ստեղծվել է ըմբշամարտի միջազգային ֆեդերացիան։

Հունահռոմեական ըմբշամարտը ժամանակին տարածված է եղել ամբողջ ԽՍՀՄ-ում, և , իհարկե, Հայաստանը ևս դրանից անմասն չի մնացել: Հայ մարզիկները ինչպես ԽՍՀՄ-ում, այնպես էլ ներկայում՝ անկախ Հայաստանի պատմության ընթացքում լավագույնս են ներկայանում բազմաթիվ միջազգային հարթակներում: Հունահռոմեական ըմբշամարտը մարտարվեստի չափանիշ է։ Ողջ աշխարհում է այն զարգանում, և հպարտությամբ կարող ենք ասել, որ հայկական դպրոցը այդ մարզաձևի լավագույն դպրոցների շարքում է։
