Հայաստանում օդի որակի հարցը վաղուց արդեն դուրս է եկել պարզապես բնապահպանական քննարկումների շրջանակից և դարձել է առողջապահական խնդիր։ Տարբեր քաղաքներում և հատկապես խիտ բնակեցված տարածքներում աճող տրանսպորտային հոսքը, շինարարության ինտենսիվությունը և կանաչ գոտիների կրճատումը ստեղծում են պայմաններ, որոնց հետևանքները հաճախ անմիջապես չեն զգացվում, բայց տարիների ընթացքում դառնում են ավելի նկատելի։
Օդի աղտոտվածությունը, հատկապես մանր մասնիկների՝ PM2.5-ի և PM10-ի բարձր մակարդակը, համարվում է ամենավտանգավոր գործոններից մեկը։ Այս մասնիկները այնքան փոքր են, որ կարող են ներթափանցել շնչառական ուղիներ և նույնիսկ հասնել արյան շրջանառությանը։ Արդյունքում տուժում են ոչ միայն թոքերը, այլ նաև սիրտ-անոթային համակարգը։
Բժիշկներն ու հանրային առողջության մասնագետները նշում են, որ շնչառական գանգատների աճը պատահական չէ։ Ասթմայի սրացումներ, քրոնիկ բրոնխիտ, հաճախակի ալերգիկ ռեակցիաներ՝ սրանք այն խնդիրներն են, որոնք կարող են ուղղակիորեն կապված լինել աղտոտված օդի հետ։ Հատկապես խոցելի են երեխաները, տարեցները և արդեն իսկ շնչառական կամ սրտային հիվանդություններ ունեցող մարդիկ։
Խնդիրը միայն մեքենաների արտանետումները չեն։ Շինարարական փոշին, անբավարար կանաչապատումը և օդի բնական շրջանառության խոչընդոտները միասին ստեղծում են այն միջավայրը, որտեղ աղտոտվածությունը երկար է մնում օդում։ Երբ այս ամենին գումարվում են եղանակային պայմանները՝ քամու բացակայություն կամ ջերմաստիճանի ինվերսիա, աղտոտվածությունը «կախվում» է տարածքների վրա։
Թեև խնդիրը համակարգային է, անհատական մակարդակում նույնպես կան որոշ քայլեր, որոնք կարող են նվազեցնել ազդեցությունը։ Օրինակ՝ ծանր երթևեկության ժամերին երկար ժամանակ դրսում չմնալը, բնակարաններում օդի պարբերաբար թարմացումը և հնարավորության դեպքում օդը մաքրող սարքերի օգտագործումը։ Սակայն մասնագետները ընդգծում են՝ սա միայն մեղմացնող մոտեցում է, ոչ թե լուծում։
Ի վերջո, Հայաստանի օդի որակը ոչ միայն բնապահպանական ցուցանիշ է, այլ նաև հանրային առողջության լուրջ մարտահրավեր։ Եթե խնդիրը մնա անփոփոխ, դրա հետևանքները կարող են դառնալ ավելի երկարաժամկետ և ավելի խորքային՝ ազդելով ամբողջ բնակչության կյանքի որակի վրա։
