1. Աշխարհում կա մրջյունների մոտ 12.000 տեսակ՝ ձեր բակի մրջյուններից մինչև արևադարձային անտառում գետնի տակ ամրոցներ կառուցող մրջյունները:
2. Հրազենային գնդակի անունը կրող մրջյուններն ունեն աշխարհում ամենացավոտ խայթոցը: Ապրում են խոնավ ջունգլիներում, օրինակ՝ Ամազոնում: Նրանց խայթոցը համեմատվել է գնդակով վիրավորվելու հետ:
3. «Հրե» մրջյունները տարեկան միջին հաշվով 3 մլրդ ֆունտ ստեռլինգի վնաս են հասցնում: Հյուսիսային Ամերիկայի այս կարմիր մրջյունները ունեն ցավոտ խայթոց, որը այրվելու զգացողություն է առաջացնում: Այստեղից էլ՝ անվանումը: Այդ խայթոցը բուժելու համար մեծ գումարներ են ծախսվում ամեն տարի:
4. Մրջյունները ամենաերկարակյաց միջատներն են: Ի տարբերություն որոշ միջատների, որոնք կարող են ապրել 4 օր կամ նույնիսկ մի քանի ժամ, մրջյունների տեսակներից մեկը կարող է ապրել մինչև 30 տարի:
5. Իր չափերի համեմատ մրջյունն աշխարհի ամենաուժեղ արարածներից է: Մի մրջյունը կարող է իր սեփական քաշից 50 անգամ ծանր բեռ վերցնել: Նրանք նաև խմբերով են աշխատում ավելի մեծ առարկաներ տեղափոխելու համար:
6. Մրջյուններին է պատկանում կենդանիների թագավորությունում ամենաարագ շարժումն ունեցողի ռեկորդը:
7. Մրջյուններ ապրում են բոլոր մայրցամաքներում՝ բացի Անտարկտիդայից:
8. Մրջյունները սոցիալական միջատներ են, որ ապրում են գաղութներով: Գաղութը բաղկացած է մեկ կամ ավելի ձվադրող թագուհիներից և մեծ քանակությամբ էգ «աշխատողներից», ովքեր կառուցում և պահպանում են բույնը, հավաքում են ուտելիքի պաշար և հոգ տանում ձագերի մասին: Արու մրջյուններն ունեն թևեր, և նրանց միակ ֆունկցիան էգի հետ զուգավորվելն է:
9. Մրջյունները չունեն ականջներ, որոշները չունեն նաև աչքեր: Նրանք «լսում են» գետնից ոտքերի միջոցով եկող տատանումների միջոցով: Իսկ աչքեր չունեցող մրջյունները կարող են հաղորդակցվել՝ օգտագործելով իրենց բեղիկները: Նրանք կարող են նաև հատուկ քիմիական ազդանշաններ ուղարկել մարմնի միջոցով այլ մրջյուններին տեղեկատվություն հաղորդելու համար: Այդ ազդանշանային համակարգը աշխատում է, երբ վտանգ կա սպառնացող, երբ ուտելիքի պաշար կա մոտակայքում և նույնիսկ, երբ պետք է գրավել զուգակցին:
10. Հայտնաբերված ամենամեծ մրջյունների բույնն ունեցել է 3700 մղոն լայնություն: Հայտնաբերվել է 2000թ. Արգենտինայում: Մրջյունների 33 «բնակչություն» է ընդգրկել՝ միլիոնավոր բույներով ու միլիարդավոր «աշխատավորներով»:
