Փոքր կղզի զարգացող երկրների (SIDS) միջազգային օրվա կապակցությամբ ՄԱԿ-ում Հայաստանի մշտական ներկայացուցչությունը, Պալաուի մշտական ներկայացուցչության (AOSIS-ի նախագահող), Առավել նվազ զարգացած, դեպի ծով ելք չունեցող և փոքր կղզի զարգացող երկրների բարձր ներկայացուցչի գրասենյակի, ՄԱԶԾ, ՄԱԿ շրջակա միջավայրի ծրագրի և ՅՈՒՆԵՍԿՕ-ի հետ համատեղ, կազմակերպել է կլոր սեղան քննարկում՝ «Դիմակայունություն, կենսաբազմազանություն և գործընկերություններ. SIDS-ը COP17-ի ճանապարհին» խորագրով։
Հայաստանի նախաձեռնությամբ՝ ապրիլի 25-ը Փոքր կղզի զարգացող երկրների (SIDS) միջազգային օր հռչակելու UNESCO գլխավոր համաժողովի կողմից ընդունված որոշումից հետո այս միջոցառումը օրվա առաջին նշանավորումն էր Նյու Յորքում։
Միջոցառումը համախմբել է փոքր կղզի զարգացող երկրների, գործընկեր երկրների, ՄԱԿ համակարգի կառույցների և այլ շահագրգիռ կողմերի՝ ընդգծելու փոքր կղզի զարգացող պետությունների առանձնահատուկ մարտահրավերներն ու ներդրումը, մասնավորապես՝ կլիմայի փոփոխության, կենսաբազմազանության կորստի դեմ պայքարի և օվկիանոսի կայունության գործում։ Քննարկումները կենտրոնացած էին դիմակայունության ամրապնդման, ֆինանսավորման հասանելիության բարելավման, բնական լուծումների խթանման և գործընկերությունների զարգացման վրա՝ Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework-ի իրականացման աջակցման նպատակով։
Մասնակիցները շեշտել են SIDS առաջնահերթությունների լիարժեք արտացոլման կարևորությունը՝ Հայաստանում կայանալիք COP17-ի նախապատրաստական փուլում, ներառյալ՝ կենսաբազմազանության ֆինանսավորման և իրականացման ուղղությամբ կոնկրետ, գործողությունների վրա հիմնված մոտեցումների միջոցով։ Կլոր սեղան սեղան քննարկմանը նաև ընդգծվեց գլոբալ համերաշխության և համակարգված ջանքերի շարունակական անհրաժեշտությունը՝ SIDS երկրների կառուցվածքային խոցելիությունների հաղթահարման համար, միաժամանակ ճանաչելով նրանց դերը կայուն և կլիմակայուն զարգացման ուղիների առաջմղման գործում։
