Մայիսի 9-ը հայ ժողովրդի համար առանձնահատուկ նշանակություն ունեցող օր է, քանի որ այն միավորում է երեք կարևոր պատմական իրադարձություն։ Այդ պատճառով Հայաստանում այս օրը ընդունված է անվանել եռատոն։ Այն խորհրդանշում է հաղթանակ, պայքար և ազգային հիշողություն։

Առաջին հերթին մայիսի 9-ը Հայրենական մեծ պատերազմում հաղթանակի օրն է։ 1945 թվականի հենց այս օրը ավարտվեց Երկրորդ համաշխարհային պատերազմը Եվրոպայում։ Պատերազմին մասնակցել են հարյուր հազարավոր հայեր, որոնցից շատերը զոհվել են ռազմաճակատում։ Հայ զինվորները և հրամանատարները մեծ դեր են ունեցել ֆաշիզմի դեմ պայքարում, իսկ նրանց հերոսությունը մինչ այսօր հիշվում և գնահատվում է։

Մայիսի 9-ը նաև կապված է Արցախի առաջին պատերազմի կարևորագույն հաղթանակներից մեկի՝ Շուշիի ազատագրման հետ։ 1992 թվականի մայիսի 8-9-ին հայկական ուժերը իրականացրին ռազմական գործողություն և ազատագրեցին Շուշի քաղաքը, որն այդ ժամանակ ռազմավարական կարևոր դիրք ուներ։ Շուշիից երկար ժամանակ գնդակոծվում էր Ստեփանակերտը, և քաղաքի ազատագրումը մեծ նշանակություն ունեցավ պատերազմի հետագա ընթացքի համար։

Նույն օրը նշվում է նաև Արցախի պաշտպանության բանակի կազմավորման տարեդարձը։ 1992 թվականին տարբեր կամավորական ջոկատների միավորման արդյունքում ստեղծվեց միասնական ռազմական կառույց, որի նպատակն էր կազմակերպել Արցախի պաշտպանությունը։ Պաշտպանության բանակի ձևավորումը կարևոր քայլ էր պատերազմի տարիներին։

Այսպիսով, մայիսի 9-ը հայ ժողովրդի համար ոչ միայն տոնական, այլև հիշատակի և հպարտության օր է։ Այն միավորում է տարբեր սերունդների պայքարն ու հաղթանակները՝ հիշեցնելով խաղաղության արժեքի և հայրենիքի պաշտպանության կարևորության մասին։
