Նորվեգիայում հնագետները Լեկա կղզում գտնվող Հերլաուգսհաուգեն հսկայական դամբարանի պեղումների ընթացքում հայտնաբերել են մոտ 20 մետր երկարությամբ նավի մնացորդներ, որոնք, ըստ մասնագետների, նախորդում են վիկինգների դարաշրջանին։ Այս մասին գրում է  Past.am-ը՝ հղում անելով Popular Mechanics-ին։

Հետազոտողների տվյալներով՝ հայտնաբերված 29 երկաթե մեխերի և այրված փայտի բեկորների վերլուծությունը թույլ է տվել հաստատել, որ նավային թաղման ավանդույթը Սկանդինավիայում գոյություն է ունեցել շատ ավելի վաղ, քան նախկինում ենթադրվում էր։ Ռադիոածխածնային թվագրումը ցույց է տվել, որ թաղումը կատարվել է մոտավորապես մ.թ. 700 թվականին։

Գիտնականները նշում են, որ սա մոտ 80 տարի վաղ է այն ժամանակաշրջանից, երբ իշխել է լեգենդար թագավոր Հերլաուգը, որի անունով էլ հետագայում կոչվել է դամբարանը։ Այս հայտնագործությունը համարվում է առաջին հստակ վկայությունը այն մասին, որ նորվեգացիները արդեն 7-րդ դարում տիրապետել են զարգացած ծովային տեխնոլոգիաների և կառուցել են մեծ նավեր, որոնք կարող էին նավարկել Հյուսիսային ծովում։

Դամբարանի կառուցվածքը նմանություններ ունի նաև Մեծ Բրիտանիայում գտնվող Սաթոն Հուի անգլոսաքսոնական հայտնի թաղման հետ, որը թվագրվում է մ.թ. 600–625 թվականներին և նույնպես ներառում է նավի մնացորդներ։

Մինչ այս նորվեգացի գիտնականները նման հին օրինակներ չէին հայտնաբերել, և Հերլաուգսհաուգենի գտածոն փաստացի լրացնում է այդ պատմական բացը՝ ապահովելով կապ վաղ միջնադարյան Անգլիայի և 8–9-րդ դարերի սկանդինավյան նավային թաղումների միջև։

Հետազոտողների կարծիքով՝ հայտնագործությունը նաև հերքում է տարածված լեգենդը, թե իբր թագավոր Հերլաուգը թաղվել է հենց այս դամբարանում։ Նոր տվյալներով՝ նավը կառուցվել և թաղվել է նրա մահից շուրջ 80 տարի առաջ։

Մասնագետները ենթադրում են, որ Լեկա կղզին այդ ժամանակ եղել է հյուսիսային և հարավային Սկանդինավիայի միջև առևտրային կարևոր հանգույց։ Գրեթե 60 մետր տրամագծով և ավելի քան 12 մետր բարձրությամբ դամբարանի կառուցումը պահանջել է հսկայական մարդկային և նյութական ռեսուրսներ։
