  • Չափազանց մեծ և իդեալական տեսք ունեցող ելակները հաճախ կասկածելի են։ Բնական ելակը սովորաբար լինում է տարբեր չափերի և փոքր թերություններով։
  • Չափազանց փայլուն մակերեսը կարող է վկայել քիմիական մշակման մասին։ Առողջ ելակը սովորաբար ունի բնական, ոչ չափազանց «պլաստիկ» տեսք։
  • Հոտի բացակայությունը ևս կարևոր նշան է։ Բնական ելակը նույնիսկ հեռվից ունի արտահայտված բույր, մինչդեռ քիմիական նյութերով աճեցվածները հաճախ գրեթե հոտ չունեն։
  • Չափազանց կոշտ կառուցվածքը ևս կարող է կասկած առաջացնել։ Բնական ելակը փափուկ է և հեշտ վնասվող։
  • Եթե ելակը երկար ժամանակ չի փչանում, նույնիսկ սենյակային պայմաններում, դա նույնպես կարող է խոսել քիմիական մշակումների մասին։

Մասնագետները խորհուրդ են տալիս ելակ գնել վստահելի վաճառողներից, նախընտրել սեզոնային բերքը և օգտագործելուց առաջ լավ լվանալ հոսող ջրի տակ։ Որոշ դեպքերում խորհուրդ է տրվում ելակը մի քանի րոպե պահել սոդայով կամ աղաջրով լի տարայի մեջ, որպեսզի մակերեսային մնացորդները հնարավորինս հեռացվեն։
