ԱՄՆ Ազգային պարկերի ծառայության տվյալներով՝ Ալյասկայի Դենալի (Մակ-Քինլի) լեռան վրա լատվիացի երեք լեռնագնացներ են զոհվել՝ երթուղու վտանգավոր հատվածում վայր ընկնելու հետևանքով։ Associated Press-ի հաղորդմամբ՝ արշավախմբի չորրորդ մասնակցին հաջողվել է փրկել։

Միջադեպը տեղի է ունեցել չորեքշաբթի օրը՝ West Buttress արևմտյան երթուղու վրա՝ Դենալի լեռնանցքի մոտակայքում՝ մոտ 5550 մետր բարձրության վրա։ Պարկի տվյալներով՝ յոթ հոգուց բաղկացած խումբը շարժվում էր մի հատվածով, որը հայտնի է իր բարդ սառցային պայմաններով և հաճախակի պատահարներով։

Վայր ընկնելուց հետո ողջ մնացած մասնակիցներից երեքը փորձել են օգնություն ցուցաբերել, սակայն ավելի ուշ նրանց վիճակը վատացել է, և նրանց տարհանել են։

Փրկարարական գործողությունն իրականացվել է ծայրահեղ պայմաններում. ողջ մնացածներից մեկին տարհանել են ուղղաթիռային ճոպանի օգնությամբ, քանի որ վայրէջք կատարելն անհնար էր, այնուհետև նրան տեղափոխել են հիվանդանոց։ Խմբի մնացած անդամներին ևս ավելի ուշ իջեցրել են լեռից։

Մոտ 6190 մետր բարձրություն ունեցող Դենալին համարվում է Հյուսիսային Ամերիկայի ամենաբարձր գագաթը։ West Buttress երթուղին ամենատարածվածն է, սակայն ներառում է ճեղքերով, սառցե պատերով և ձնահյուսի վտանգով հատվածներ։

Պարկի տվյալներով՝ ամեն տարի լեռ են բարձրանում մոտ 1000–1200 լեռնագնաց, և կեսից պակասն է հասնում գագաթին։ Վերելքների ողջ պատմության ընթացքում այստեղ ավելի քան 130 մարդ է զոհվել այդ լեռան վրա։
