39-ամյա Չադ Բրոշենը շատ է սիրում զբաղվել դայվինգով, և փորձում է որքան հնարավոր է հաճախ պարապել: Ակնոցով սուզվելը շատ անհարմար է, այդ պատճառով էլ նա կրում է օպտիկական լինզաներ: Համաձայն արտադրողի կանոնների՝ այն կարելի է օգտագործել 30 օր շարունակ, նույնիսկ չհանելով գիշերները: Չադի համար, ով տեսողության հետ խնդիրներ ունի, նման տարբերակն ամենահարմարը թվաց: Բայց մեկ ամիս նաց նա ընդմիշտ զղջաց այդ մասին:
Սկզբում աչքն ուղղակի քոր էր գալիս: Բայց, հաջորդ օրն արթնանալով՝ դայվերը հասկացավ, որ ինչ-որ լուրջ բան է եղել: Ցավն անտանելի էր: «Թվում էր, թե ինչ-որ մեկը փորփրում է աչքս իր սուր եղունգով», – հիշում է Չադը: Զննելով Չադի աչքը և վերլուծելով իրավիճակը՝ բժիշկը ցնցող եզրակացություն արեց:
Չադը երբեք չէր հանել լինզաները, և այդպես լուրջ վարակ էր անցել աչքի մեջ: Ագրեսիվ մանրէն խորը ներթափանցել էր աչքի մեջ՝ համարյա ամբողջությամբ ոչնչացնելով այն:
«Մարդիկ, ովքեր չեն հանում լինզաները նույնիսկ գիշերները, ռիսկի են դիմում լուրջ աչքերի հիվանդություններ ստանալ», – զգուշացնում է ամերիկացի ակնաբույժ Ուիլյամ Ֆոլկները: Սակայն Չադի համար այդ արտահայտությունը տեղին չէր, արդեն շատ ուշ էր:
Նրա ձախ աչքն ամբողջությամբ կուրացել էր: Չադը՝ գիտակցելով իր ճակատագրական սխալը, խորհուրդ է տալիս բոլորին. «Եթե ձեր աչքի հետ ինչ-որ բան այն չէ, ամնիջապես դիմեք բժշկի: Միշտ կատարայալ մաքուր պահեք ձեր լինզաները և անպայման հանեք դրանք գիշերները»:
