Փորձը ցույց է տվել, որ ավելի թեթև ճաշը մարդուն քաղցած չի թողել, և մարմինն իր վրա չի զգացել որոշակի կալորիաների պակասը: Արդյունքում` հնարավոր է եղել օրական հրաժարվել 250 կալորիա պարունակող սննդից և նիհարելու գործում ունենալ արդյունք:
Հետազոտությունը կատարել են Քորնելի համալսարանի մասնագետները` Դևիդ Լևիցկու գլխավորությամբ: Նրանք 5 շաբաթ շարունակ հետևել են մի խումբ կամավորների սննդակարգին: Առաջին շաբաթվա ընթացքում կամավորները կերել են այն, ինչ ցանկացել են: Հերթական երկու շաբաթների ընթացքում նրանց մի մասը կերել է միևնույն ուտեստները: Վերջին երկու շաբաթվա ընթացքում կամավորների կեսը կերել է մոտ 250 կալորիայով պակաս, քան մյուս կեսը: Պարզվել է, որ այդ ընթացքում քիչ ուտող կամավորները կորցրել են միջինը 500 գրամ, սակայն դա որևէ կերպ չի ազդել նրանց առողջության վրա:
Հետազոտության մեջ նշվում է, որ նման սննդակարգի դեպքում մարդը կարող է կորցնել տարեկան մինչև 10 կգ ավել քաշ:
