Խնձորի կանոնավոր օգտագործումը կարող է դրական ազդեցություն ունենալ արյան մեջ շաքարի մակարդակի, անոթային առողջության և աղիքային միկրոբիոտայի վրա: Այս եզրակացությանը հանգել են հետազոտողները 38 կլինիկական փորձարկումներից հետո: Արդյունքները հրապարակվել են «Սնունդ և Ֆունկցիա» (F&F) ամսագրում:
Ուսումնասիրության հեղինակները ուսումնասիրել են ինչպես թարմ խնձորներ, այնպես էլ խնձորի վրա հիմնված արտադրանք: Կարճաժամկետ փորձարկումների ժամանակ գիտնականները հիմնականում ուսումնասիրել են մրգի ազդեցությունը ուտելուց հետո գլյուկոզայիի մակարդակի և օրգանիզմի հակաօքսիդանտային պաշտպանության վրա: Երկարաժամկետ ուսումնասիրությունները կենտրոնացած էին սրտանոթային առողջության ցուցանիշների, բորբոքման, օքսիդատիվ սթրեսի և աղիքային միկրոբիոտայի կազմի վրա:
Վերլուծությունը ցույց է տվել, որ խնձորը կարող է բարելավել արյան մեջ շաքարի վերահսկողությունը, բարձրացնել հակաօքսիդանտային ակտիվությունը և աջակցել անոթային էնդոթելի՝ արյան անոթների ներքին շերտի, որը պատասխանատու է դրանց առաձգականության և գործառույթի համար: Ավելին, երկարատև օգտագործման դեպքում նկատվել են աղիքային միկրոբիոտայի կազմի բարելավման նշաններ:
