Ռուսաստանից Բալի մեկնած Աննան կղզի էր ժամանել մայիսի 31-ին։ Հաջորդ օրը նրա առողջական վիճակը կտրուկ վատացել է տեղական գինի օգտագործելուց հետո։ Աղջիկը շտապ հոսպիտալացվել է ծանր վիճակում, իսկ ավելի ուշ ընկել է կոմայի մեջ։
Ընտանիքի անդամների փոխանցմամբ՝ բժիշկները ենթադրել են, որ նա ենթարկվել է մեթանոլով ծանր թունավորման։ Երկու շաբաթ շարունակ բժիշկները պայքարել են նրա կյանքի համար, սակայն նրա վիճակը չի բարելավվել։ Վերջիվերջո մասնագետները հայտարարել են ուղեղի մահ։
Հարազատներն ու ընկերները փորձել են կազմակերպել նրա տեղափոխումը Ռուսաստան՝ հետագա բուժման նպատակով, սակայն աղջկա առողջական վիճակը մնացել է ծայրահեղ ծանր։
Մեթանոլը չափազանց վտանգավոր թունավոր նյութ է, որը նույնիսկ փոքր չափաբաժիններով կարող է լուրջ վնաս հասցնել մարդու օրգանիզմին։ Այն կարող է առաջացնել կենտրոնական նյարդային համակարգի ծանր խանգարումներ, տեսողության կորուստ, կոմա և մահ։
Մասնագետները հիշեցնում են, որ Հարավարևելյան Ասիայի որոշ երկրներում ժամանակ առ ժամանակ արձանագրվում են կեղծ կամ անորակ ալկոհոլային խմիչքներից թունավորման դեպքեր, որոնցում կարող է պարունակվել մարդու կյանքի համար վտանգավոր մեթիլ սպիրտ։
