Մելանի Պրիտչարդի հղիությունը նորմալ էր ընթանում, բժիշկները ոչ մի շեղում չէին նկատել: Սակայն, երբ եկավ ծննդաբերության ժամանակը, իրավիճակը դուրս եկավ վերահսկողությունից. Մելանին ուժեղ ցնցումների մեջ ընկավ: Մոնիտորի վրայի ցուցանիշները սկսեցին բարձրանակ, և բժիշկները արտակարգ իրավիճակի ազդանշան բարձրացրեցին, Մելանիին անհրաժեշտ էր վերակենդանացման բաժին տանել:
Պարզվեց՝ մայրիկի մոտ պտղաջրային էմբոլիա էր, և նա մահացել էր…
Նրա ամուսին Դագը պատմում է, որ իր կինն, ըստ կլինիկական ցուցանիշների, մահացած է եղել, երբ լույս աշխարհ է բերել իրենց աղջկան: «Առաջին բանը, որ եկավ մտքիս, դա այն էր, որ ես ամուրի եմ: Իսկ մենք ընդամենը երեք տարի առաջ էինք ամուսնացել…»:
Բժիշկներն ասացին ամուսնուն, որ հրաժեշտ տա կնոջը: Դագը նրան հետևյալ խոսքերն է շշնջացել. «Եթե քո մեջ ուժ է մնացել, թեկուզ մի փոքր, պայքարիր»:
Դագին և նրա հարազատներին մնում էր միայն աղոթել: Բժիշկները ջանք չէին խնայում Մելանիին վերակենդանացնելու համար: Դրական լուրեր չկային… Մի փոքր ուշ եկավ Մելանիի եղբայրը, նա բժիշկ է:
Եղբայրը ներքին արյունահոսություն հայտնաբերեց, և բժիշկները շտապեցին վիրահատել կնոջը: Հարազատները հույս չունեին այլևս: Բայց 24 ժամ անց Մելանին արթնացավ:
Երբ նա բացեց աչքերը, Դագը նրան ցույց տվեց փոքրիկի նկարը, որը հրաշքով էր ապրել: Սակայն Մելանիի կյանքը դեռ վտանգի մեջ էր: Բժիշկներն ասեցին, որ նրան սրտի կամ թոքի փոխպատվաստում է անհրաժեշտ:
Նույնիսկ, եթե Մելանիին հաջողվի ողջ մնալ, նա լուրջ նյարդաբանական խնդիրներ կունենա: Բայց Դագը չէր հուսահատվում:
Մի քանի ժամ անց, Մելանին արդեն ինքնուրույն էր շնչում: Ուղղակի հրաշք է. Մեկ շաբաթ անց ընտանիքն արդեն տանն էր, իսկ Մելանիի մոտ ոչ մի բարդություն չէր ծագել:
Դագը չէր կարողանում հավատալ իր երջանկությանը. «Սա իսկական հրաշք է: Այն, որ Մելանիին հաջողվեց ողջ մնալ, դա իսկական հրաշք է, Աստված լսեց մեր աղոթքները»:
