Մարմնի հոտի փոփոխությունը սովորաբար անմիջապես չի նշանակում լուրջ հիվանդության առկայություն։ Այն կարող է կապված լինել սննդակարգի, քրտնարտադրության, հիգիենայի, մաշկի վրա ապրող միկրոօրգանիզմների կամ տարբեր առողջական խնդիրների հետ։
Սակայն որոշ հիվանդությունների դեպքում մարմնի հոտը կամ շնչառության հոտը կարող է փոխվել։ Քաղցկեղի որոշ տեսակների ժամանակ օրգանիզմում տեղի ունեցող նյութափոխանակային փոփոխությունները կարող են առաջացնել որոշակի քիմիական միացություններ, որոնք երբեմն հնարավոր է հայտնաբերել շնչառության կամ մարմնի արտազատումների միջոցով։ Այդ ուղղությամբ նույնիսկ գիտական հետազոտություններ են իրականացվում։
Սակայն կարևոր է հասկանալ՝ միայն հոտի փոփոխությամբ հնարավոր չէ ախտորոշել քաղցկեղ։ Նույն հոտը կարող է ունենալ բազմաթիվ այլ պատճառներ, որոնք ավելի տարածված են և պարտադիր չէ, որ կապված լինեն ուռուցքային հիվանդության հետ։
Օրինակ՝ բերանի տհաճ հոտը կարող է առաջանալ ատամների և լնդերի խնդիրների, բերանի չորության կամ որոշ սննդամթերքների օգտագործման հետևանքով։ Իսկ քրտինքի հոտի փոփոխության վրա կարող են ազդել սննդակարգը, հորմոնալ փոփոխությունները, ֆիզիկական ակտիվությունը և մի շարք այլ գործոններ։
Ուստի մարմնի կամ շնչառության հոտի երկարատև և անսովոր փոփոխության դեպքում պետք չէ ինքնուրույն եզրակացություն անել։ Եթե փոփոխությունը պահպանվում է կամ դրան միանում են այլ անհանգստացնող ախտանշաններ, ճիշտ քայլը բժշկի հետ խորհրդակցելն է։
