Ավստրալիայում 69-ամյա կնոջը սխալմամբ ենթարկել են ոչ այն վիրահատությանը, որը նախատեսված էր․ քաղցկեղային ուռուցքը հեռացնելու փոխարեն բժիշկները հեռացրել են նրա արտաքին սեռական օրգանների մեծ մասը։ 

Դեպքը տեղի է ունեցել 2026 թվականի հունվարի 23-ին։ Դեբրա Բյուքենանը «Սանշայն» հիվանդանոց էր ընդունվել՝ կոնքի հատվածում հայտնաբերված քաղցկեղային մաշկային ուռուցքը հեռացնելու նպատակով։

Սակայն հիվանդանոցում տեղի ունեցած շփոթության հետևանքով բուժանձնակազմը նրան նույնացրել է մեկ այլ՝ Դեբորա անունով հիվանդի հետ։ Երբ Բյուքենանին տեղափոխել են վիրահատարան, նա փորձել է ճշտել՝ արդյոք բժիշկները հենց իրեն են նկատի ունեցել։ Նրան պատասխանել են, որ ամեն ինչ ճիշտ է։ Մյուս հիվանդը նույնպես փորձել է պարզել՝ արդյոք սխալ չի տեղի ունեցել, սակայն անձնակազմը նրան վստահեցրել է, որ խնդիր չկա։

Արդյունքում բժիշկները կատարել են ոչ նախատեսված վիրահատություն, իսկ Բյուքենանի իրական ուռուցքը չի հեռացվել։

Կինը հասկացել է կատարվածի մասին միայն վիրահատությունից հետո։ Գիտակցության գալուց հետո նա գնացել է զուգարան, որտեղ նկատել է ուժեղ արյունահոսություն։ Երբ նա հարցրել է բուժքրոջը, վերջինս հայտնել է, որ դա վիրահատությունից հետո սպասվող երևույթ է։ Սակայն Բյուքենանը նշել է, որ իր ուռուցքը գտնվում է մարմնի մեկ այլ հատվածում, իսկ ավելի ուշ համոզվել է, որ այն դեռ չի հեռացվել։

Կնոջ խոսքով՝ իրեն զննել է նաև կրտսեր վիրաբույժը, սակայն նա սկզբում չի ընդունել Բյուքենանի պնդումը, որ բժշկական սխալ է տեղի ունեցել։ Հիվանդանոցից նրան դուրս են գրել՝ առանց տեղի ունեցածի վերաբերյալ բավարար բացատրության։ Ավելի ուշ կինը ստիպված է եղել կրկին բուժօգնության դիմել՝ արդեն նախատեսված ուռուցքը հեռացնելու համար։

Բյուքենանը պատմել է, որ դեպքից հետո կորցրել է վստահությունը բժշկական համակարգի նկատմամբ և այժմ բժշկի այցելությունները մեծ անհանգստություն են առաջացնում իր մոտ։

Հիվանդանոցից հայտնել են, որ անձնակազմի պակասը կարող էր դեր ունենալ միջադեպի առաջացման մեջ։ Միաժամանակ հաստատությունը հայտարարել է, որ չի կարող մեկնաբանել կոնկրետ հիվանդի դեպքը, սակայն ունի թափանցիկության քաղաքականություն և բժշկական միջադեպերի առնչությամբ համապատասխան հետաքննություններ է իրականացնում։

Բյուքենանի փաստաբանները պատրաստվում են կնոջ անունից հայց ներկայացնել Գերագույն դատարան։
