Հարավային Կորեայի նախագահ Լի Չժե Մյոնը հայտարարել է, որ հարգում է ԱՄՆ նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփի ջանքերը՝ Հյուսիսային Կորեայի հետ երկխոսության պայմաններ ստեղծելու համար։ Այս մասին նա գրել է X հարթակում։

«Ես կարծում եմ, որ նախագահ Թրամփի ուղերձը նշանակալի որոշում է, որը խորապես արտացոլում է Կորեական թերակղզում թշնամանքն ու բախումը հաղթահարելու և խաղաղություն հաստատելու նրա մտադրությունները», – գրել է նա։

Նախագահը համաձայնել է Թրամփի այն որոշման հետ, որ Կորեայի Հանրապետությունը պետք է պատասխանատվություն կրի Կորեական թերակղզում իր սեփական անվտանգության համար։

«Մենք կիսում ենք նախագահ Թրամփի կամքը և ջանքերն՝ ուղղված Կորեական թերակղզում խաղաղության ռեժիմ հաստատելու համար երկխոսության պայմաններ ստեղծելուն, նույնիսկ եթե դա նշանակում է Հարավային Կորեայի և ԱՄՆ-ի այս տարվա համատեղ զորավարժությունների կրճատում…. Մենք հարգում ենք նրա որոշումը», – նշվել է գրառման մեջ։

Նա նաև հաստատել է, որ խթանիչ դեր կխաղա՝ նպաստելով նախագահ Թրամփի խաղաղարար գործունեությանը։

«Բացի այդ, Կորեայի Հանրապետության կառավարությունը տարբեր առիթներով հայտարարել է, որ ակտիվորեն կմասնակցի միջազգային հանրության, այդ թվում՝ Միացյալ Նահանգների ջանքերին՝ Հորմուզի նեղուցով ազատ անցումը վերականգնելու համար: Այս նպատակով մեր կառավարությունը կշարունակի սերտորեն շփվել ամերիկյան կողմի հետ՝ Կորեայի Հանրապետության օրենքներով և հիմնարար քաղաքականությամբ թույլատրելի շրջանակներում տարբեր գործնական ներդրումների վերաբերյալ, ինչպես դա արել է նախկինում», – ընդգծել է նա։

Օգոստոսի 17-ին ԱՄՆ նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփը Պենտագոնին հրամայել է կրճատել ԱՄՆ-Հարավային Կորեա համատեղ «Ուլչիի ազատության վահան» (Ulchi Freedom Shield) զորավարժությունները, որոնք դաշնակիցներն ամեն տարի անցկացնում են՝ Հյուսիսային Կորեայի հետ հնարավոր բախումներին նախապատրաստվելու նպատակով։

Ամերիկացի առաջնորդի խոսքով՝ զորավարժությունները չափազանց թանկ էին, քանի որ «դրանց զգալի մասը վճարում էր Միացյալ Նահանգները»։ Թրամփը հավելել էր, որ դրանք նաև «բացարձակապես անհարկի թշնամական ազդանշան են ուղարկում Հյուսիսային Կորեային», որի առաջնորդի հետ ինքը սերտ հարաբերություններ ունի։

ԱՄՆ-Հարավային Կորեա ռազմական զորավարժությունները սկզբնապես նախատեսված էին անցկացնել օգոստոսի 17-ից 27-ը։ Հետագայում երկրները որոշեցին զորավարժություններն ավարտել օգոստոսի 21-ին։
