Գերմանիայի առողջապահության նախարարության մաս կազմող Ռոբերտ Կոխի ինստիտուտի (RKI) տվյալներով, այս ամռանը Գերմանիայում մոտ 14,000 մարդ է մահացել շոգի հետևանքով, ինչը ամենաբարձր ցուցանիշն է առնվազն 1992 թվականից ի վեր։

Ինստիտուտի վերջին տվյալները ներառում են տարվա սկզբից մինչև օգոստոսի 9-ը ընկած ժամանակահատվածը: Նրանց տվյալներով՝ շոգի հետ կապված մահացությունների ընդհանուր թիվը գնահատվում է 14,000: Սա ամենաբարձր թիվն է 1992 թվականից ի վեր: 1994 թվականին համաճարակաբանները գնահատել են, որ շոգի ալիքների պատճառով մահացել է 10,100 մարդ, մինչդեռ 2018 թվականին այդ թիվը կազմել է 8,700:

Այս ամռան մահացությունների մեծ մասը գրանցվել է 75 տարեկանից բարձր տարիքային խմբում (10,300 մահ): Իր վերլուծության մեջ ինստիտուտը բացահայտել է ծայրահեղ շոգի երկու շրջան: Առաջինը տեղի է ունեցել հունիսի վերջին, իսկ երկրորդը՝ հուլիսի վերջից մինչև օգոստոսի սկիզբ: Մահացությունների մեծ մասը՝ 9600 մարդ, տեղի է ունեցել հունիսի 22-ից 28-ը։

RKI-ի գնահատականները հիմնված են Դաշնային վիճակագրական գրասենյակի և Գերմանիայի օդերևութաբանական ծառայության տվյալների վրա։ Հետազոտողները օգտագործում են վիճակագրական մոդելներ՝ որոշելու համար, թե որքանով է ծայրահեղ ջերմային ալիքների (օրեր, որոնց միջին օրական ջերմաստիճանը 20 աստիճանից բարձր է) ընթացքում մահացությունների թիվը գերազանցում տարվա այդ եղանակի համար բնորոշ մահացության ցուցանիշները։ Հունիսի 22-ից 28-ը Գերմանիայում միջին օրական ջերմաստիճանը կազմել է 26.4 աստիճան Ցելսիուս, իսկ որոշ վայրերում ցերեկային ջերմաստիճանը գերազանցել է 40 աստիճան Ցելսիուսը։
