Առաջիկա 30 տարում Միջերկրական ծովում ավելի քան մեկ մետր բարձրությամբ ցունամիի ալիքի առաջացման հավանականությունը մոտ է 100 տոկոսին։ Այս գնահատականը ներկայացրել է ՅՈՒՆԵՍԿՕ-ն, և առափնյա շրջաններում արդեն պատրաստվում են այդ սցենարին։ Հաշվարկներն իրականացրել է Մոնպելիեի համալսարանի Աշխարհագրության և տարածքային պլանավորման լաբորատորիան ֆրանսիական պետական ծառայությունների հետ համատեղ։

Վտանգը կապված է տարածաշրջանի բարձր սեյսմիկ և հրաբխային ակտիվության հետ․ մոտ գտնվող օջախներից ալիքը կարող է ափ հասնել տասը րոպեից էլ քիչ ժամանակում՝ գրեթե ժամանակ չթողնելով տարհանման համար։ Միջերկրականի այս հատվածում պատմական ցունամիներն արդեն բարձրացրել են մոտ երկու մետր հասնող ալիքներ։

Վերլուծությունն ընդգրկել է ֆրանսիական ափամերձ գծի մոտ 1 700 կիլոմետրը, 187 քաղաք և առնվազն 164 հազար մշտական բնակիչ, իսկ հանգստյան սեզոնին վտանգի տակ կարող են հայտնվել մինչև 835 հազար լողափերում հանգստացողները։ Տարհանման գոտի սովորաբար համարվում է ծովի մակարդակից հինգ մետրից ցածր և ափից 200 մետրի սահմաններում գտնվող տարածքը․ դրա համար սահմանվել է մոտ հարյուր ապաստարանային կետ։

Խոսքը վերաբերում է ռիսկի կիրառական գնահատմանը և պատրաստվածության ծրագրին։ 2026 թվականի հունիսին Նիս-Լազուր ափ առողջարանը ՅՈՒՆԵՍԿՕ-ից ստացել է Tsunami Ready՝ «ցունամիին պատրաստ» կարգավիճակը։ Մասնագետներն ընդգծում են, որ իրադարձության ճշգրիտ ամսաթիվը կանխատեսել հնարավոր չէ, սակայն դրա տեղի ունենալու հավանականությունն այնքան մեծ է, որ նախազգուշացման համակարգերն ու տարհանման պլանները պետք է նախապես մշակվեն։

Միջերկրական ծովը բազմիցս դարձել է ավերիչ ցունամիների աղբյուր․ ամենախոշորներից մեկը տեղի է ունեցել 1908 թվականին Մեսինայի մոտ և երկրաշարժի հետ միասին խլել է տասնյակ հազարավոր կյանքեր։ Սեյսմոլոգները հիշեցնում են, որ ալիքի մոտենալու կարճ ժամանակը նշանակում է, որ հիմնական պաշտպանությունը ոչ թե տեխնիկան է, այլ մարդկանց վարքագիծը՝ ուժեղ կամ երկարատև ստորգետնյա ցնցման դեպքում ափին անմիջապես բարձրադիր վայր հեռանալու սովորությունը՝ չսպասելով պաշտոնական ազդանշանին։
