Միացյալ Նահանգները կարող է ևս մեկ ռազմական գործողություն իրականացնել Իրանի դեմ, հայտարարել է ԱՄՆ նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփը Ֆլորիդայում միջանկյալ ընտրություններին ընդառաջ ունեցած ելույթի ժամանակ։

«Գուցե մենք ևս մեկ փոքրիկ «Epic Fury» [«Էպիկական զայրույթ»]գործողություն իրականացնենք», - ասել է Թրամփը՝ առանց մանրամասներ ներկայացնելու։

Փետրվարի 28-ին ԱՄՆ-ն և Իսրայելը Իրանի դեմ սկսել էին «Էպիկական ցասում» անվանումը կրող ռազմական գործողություն, որի ընթացքում հարվածներ էին հասցրել իրանական ռազմական օբյեկտներին։ Թեհրանը պատասխանել էր Իսրայելի տարածքի և տարածաշրջանում ամերիկյան օբյեկտների վրա հարձակումներով, ինչպես նաև սահմանափակել էր նավագնացությունը Հորմուզի նեղուցով։

Հունիսի 18-ին ԱՄՆ-ն և Իրանը ստորագրել էին 14 կետից բաղկացած փոխըմբռնման հուշագիր։ Փաստաթուղթը նախատեսում էր ռազմական գործողությունների դադարեցում, ամերիկյան ռազմածովային շրջափակման վերացում, Հորմուզի նեղուցով նավագնացության վերականգնում, ինչպես նաև 60 օրվա ընթացքում վերջնական համաձայնագրի շուրջ բանակցությունների անցկացում։ Կողմերը նաև պայմանավորվել էին քննարկել Իրանի միջուկային ծրագիրը և պատժամիջոցների վերացման հարցը։ Սակայն այս պայմանավորվածությունները չէին հանգեցրել տևական կարգավորման։ Մի քանի շաբաթ անց ռազմական գործողությունները վերսկսվել էին, իսկ ԱՄՆ-ն վերականգնել էր իրանական նավահանգիստների ռազմածովային շրջափակումը։

Սեպտեմբերին Իրանն առաջարկել էր բացել Հորմուզի նեղուցը յոթ օրվա ընթացքում՝ պայմանով, որ ԱՄՆ-ն թուլացնի ռազմական ճնշումը և վերացնի իրանական նավահանգիստների շրջափակումը։ Դոնալդ Թրամփը մերժել էր Թեհրանի առաջարկը՝ այն որակելով անընդունելի։ Վաշինգտոնը պնդել էր կնքեշ ավելի ընդգրկուն համաձայնագիր, որը կներառի ոչ միայն Հորմուզի նեղուցի բացումը, այլև Իրանի միջուկային ծրագիրը։
