Իրանի և Ադրբեջանի միջպետական հարաբերությունների դաշտը խայտաբղետ է և պարունակում է ինչպես փոխշահավետ հնարավորություններ, այնպես էլ լուրջ փոխադարձ սպառնալիքներ: Առաջիկա մի քանի ամիսները լինելու են ադրբեջանա-ռուսական և ադրբեջանա-իրանական հարաբերությունները որակապես մի նոր վիճակի բերելու շահագրգիռ փորձերի շրջան, ընդ որում՝ Ադրբեջանի համար այդ գործընթացները կարևոր են լինելու այն պատճառով, որ կամրապնդվեն պաշտոնական Բաքվի դիրքերը Հարավային Կովկասում, բայց դա կարվի ոչ ի վնաս կամ ի հաշիվ Թուրքիայի հետ հարաբերությունների: Ադրբեջանը ռազմավարական նշանակություն ունի և Մոսկվայի, և Թեհրանի համար, քանի որ հենց այդ երկիրը ոչ միայն հանդիսանում է Ռուսաստանն Իրանի հետ կապող ցամաքային կամուրջը, այլև առանցքային դերակատարում կարող է ունենալ արևմուտքից դեպի Ռուսաստանի հարավային շրջանները, Կենտրոնական Ասիա և Իրանի հյուսիս-արևելյան մարզերը թշնամական զանգվածային ներթափանցման փորձերը կասեցնելու տեսանկյունից: Հիշենք նաև այն, որ Բաքվից Նախիջևան տանող ցամաքային ճանապարհներից մեկն էլ անցնում է հենց Իրանի տարածքով: Ի դեպ, այս փուլում անգամ Թուրքիան է շահագրգռված լինելու Ադրբեջանի տարածաշրջանային դերի աճով, քանի որ Բաքվի հարավային և հյուսիսային մեծ հարևանների հետ հարաբերությունների խորացումն իր այնպիսի առարկայական արդյունքներն է ունենալու, որոնք օգտակար կլինեն Անկարային՝ ավելի ուշ սեփական շահերն առաջ մղելու տեսանկյունից:Այդուհանդերձ, գոյություն ունեն Ադրբեջանի և Իրանի տևական մերձեցմանը խոչընդոտող ներքին և արտաքին գործոններ, որոնք անհնար է չեզոքացնել, քանի որ դրանք կապված են ազգային-պետական դիմագծի հիմնարար, առանցքային որակների անհամատեղելիության հետ: Պաշտոնական Թեհրանը նախագահ Ալիևին երբևէ որպես վստահելի գործընկեր չի դիտարկի, իսկ վերջինիս կողմից էլ իրանական վարչակազմը որպես մշտական քաղաքական, տնտեսական, ռազմական սպառնալիքների պոտենցիալ աղբյուր է ընկալվելու, սակայն գալիք մի կարճատև ժամանակահատվածի ընթացքում Բաքուն, Մոսկվան ու Թեհրանը մի կողմ դնելով իրենց միջև եղած օբյեկտիվ հակասությունները, կձգտեն առավելագույն օգուտները քաղել իրենց շահերը համադրելու այս հնարավորությունից:
