1934 թ. օգոստոսյան մի օր Մուստաֆա Քեմալ Աթաթուրքը բարձրաստիճան այրերի հետ ճաշկերույթի էր մասնակցում, ճաշկերույթի մասնակիցներից ոմանք այլազգի էին, նրանց մեջ էր նաև ազգությամբ հայ, լեզվաբան Հակոբ Մարաթյանը կամ ինչպես թուրքերն էին ասում՝ Դիլաչարը:

Ճաշկերույթի ժամանակ, երբ բոլորը «տաքանում» են, Աթաթուրքն առաջարկում է, որ ամեն ազգի ներկայացուցիչ իր ազգի լեզվով մի երգ երգի: «Համերգն» իր շեշտված բաղաձայներով բացում է մի գերմանացի, և այսպես շարունակ բոլորը, հերթը հասնում է մի հույն լեզվաբանի, բայց , երբ բոլորը սպասում էին նրա հունարեն երեգին, նա ոտքի է կանգնում և ասում.«Ես թուրք եմ, կեցցե Թուրքիան»:

Այնուհետ բոլորի հայացքները սևեռվում են դեպի Հակոբ Մարաթյանը, բոլորը կարծում էին, որ նա չի համարձակվի հայերեն երգ երեգել, մանավանդ Աթաթուրքի ներկայությամբ, մի խոսքով, նրանից թուրքերեն երգ էին ակնկալում: Բայց կատարվեց անկանխատեսելին: Հակոբը ոտքի կանգնեց, վերցրեց գավաթն ու խրոխտ, նույնիսկ չափազանց բարձր ձայնով սկսեց երգել Անդրանիկի երգը: Ներկաները, մանավանդ թուրքերն ու Աթաթուրքի պնակալեզ օտարազգի բարեկամները լսելով Անդրանիկի անունը՝ ոտքի կանգնեցին, բայց Աթաթուրքը սաստեց նրանց, ասելով.«Այս երգի տակ շատերը հանուն իրենց ազգի մահվան են գնացել, հարգանքով լսեք այս երգը»։

«Անդրանիկի պես հերոսներ հայերը անցյալում չեն ունեցել, ներկայումս՝ չունեն, հետագայում էլ դժվար ունենան։ Հայերը ճիշտ են անում, որ հիշում են իրենց հերոսին»,-ասում է Աթաթուրքը՝ հավելելով, որ միեւնույնն է թուրքերն են հաղթել այս անգամ։

Հ.Գ. Թուրքերի տարածը հաղթանակ չէր, այլ՝ տմարդի, ստոր, դավադրություն էր, որը կուլ տվեց 1.5 միլիոն հայերի, անկախ սեռական ու տարիքային խտրության:Թուրք զինվորի արածը տղամարդկության և քաջության հետ ոչ մի կապ չունեցող արարք էր: Հետևաբար՝ Աթաթուրքն իր խոսքում մասնակիորեն սխալվել է:
