Տերն ասաց Հոբին՝ փոթորկի ու ամպի միջից. «Այդ ո՞վ է, որ իր խորհուրդները թաքցնում է Ինձնից, խոսքերը հավաքելով իր սրտում՝ կարծում է, թե Ինձնից պահում է դրանք։ Տղամարդու պես պնդացրո՛ւ մեջքդ. հարցեր եմ տալու քեզ, ու պատասխա՛ն տուր Ինձ։ Որտե՞ղ էիր դու, երբ Ես երկրի հիմքերն էի գցում։ Ասա՛ Ինձ, եթե խելամիտ ես ու իմաստուն։ Ո՞վ է սահմանել դրա չափը, եթե գիտես, կամ ո՞վ է լար գցել դրա վրա։ Ինչի՞ վրա է հաստատվել դրա օղակը, ո՞վ է դրել դրա անկյունաքարը։ Երբ աստղերը ցիրուցան եղան, աստղերի բոլոր հրեշտակներն Ինձ մեծաձայն օրհնաբանեցին, Իմ բոլոր հրեշտակներն էլ գովաբանեցին։ Ծովը փակեցի դարպասներով, երբ այն իր մոր որովայնից ծնվեց դուրս եկավ։ Մեգը նրան իբրև հանդերձ սահմանեցի, մառախուղը՝ իբրև խանձարուր։ Սահմաններ դրեցի նրա համար՝ փականքներ ու դարպասներ, և ասացի. «Կգաս մինչև այդ վայրն ու այլևս առաջ չես անցնի». այդտեղ, քո մեջ կխորտակվեն քո ալիքները։ Թե քո՞ կողքին կարգեցի առավոտյան լույսը։ Արուսյակը տեսավ իր համար սահմանվածը՝ հասնել երկրի թևերի վրա, թափ տալ ամբարիշտներին դրա վրայից։ Կամ թե դո՞ւ ես, որ կավն առնելով ստեղծեցիր կենդանի արարածին և, խոսուն, զետեղեցիր երկրի վրա։ Մերժեցի՞ր ամբարիշտներին լույսը, խորտակեցի՞ր ամբարտավանների բազուկները։ Հասա՞ր ծովի ակունքին, շրջեցի՞ր անդունդների խորքերը։ Քո առաջ ահով բացվելո՞ւ են մահվան դռները. դժոխքի դռնապանները սարսելո՞ւ են քեզ տեսնելով։ Վերահասու լինելո՞ւ ես երկնքի ներքո եղած տարածության. ասա՛ Ինձ տեսնեմ՝ որքա՞ն է այն։ Ո՞րն է այն երկիրը, ուր լույսն է օթևանում, կամ ո՞րն է խավարի տեղը։ Տանելո՞ւ ես Ինձ նրա սահմաններին, եթե գիտես դրանց ճանապարհները։ Գուցե գիտե՞ս կամ ա՞յն ժամանակներում ես ծնվել. քո օրերը բազո՞ւմ են…»:
