Կրծքագեղծի քաղցկեղը լուրջ վտանգ է յուրաքանչյուր կնոջ համար, որից խուսափելու համար կանայք անում են ամեն ինչ։ Սակայն, երբեմն առանց իմանալու, կանայք բարձրացնում են քաղցկեղով հիվանդանալու հավանականությունը։ 
 
Նորվեգիայում գիտնականների թիմը կատարած հետազոտության արդյունքում հանգել է եզրակացության, որ առկա է ուղղակի կապ կրծքագեղձի քաղցկեղի և կաթի միջև։ Այն կանայք, ովքեր օրական խմում են 3 բաժակ կաթ, եռապատկում են կրծքագեղձի քաղցկեղով հիվանդանալու հավանականությունը՝ համեմատած այն կանանց հետ, ովքեր կաթ չեն խմում։
 
Հետազոտողներն ուսումնասիրել են հիվանդների Ֆինլանդիայից, Շվեդիայից, Մեծ Բրիտանիայից, Կանադայից և Ամերիկայից՝ երկրներ, որտեղ կաթի սպառումը բավական բարձր է։ Ուսումնասիրությունը ցույց է տվել, որ այն երկրներում, որտեղ շատ ցածր է կաթի սպառումը, կրծքագեղձի քաղցկեղի դեպքերը ևս քիչ են։
 
Կաթի մեջ պարունակվում է հորմոններ, որոնք ունեն քաղցկեղածին հատկություններ։ Նույնը վերաբերում է նաև վիտամին D-ի հավելումներին, որն առկա է կաթի և մյուս կաթնամթերքի մեջ։ Այն կանայք, որոնց մոտ հայտնաբերվել է կրծքագեղձի քաղցկեղ, սպառել են կրկնակի անգամ ավելի շատ վիտամին D-ի հավելումներ։ 
 
Կաթի հետ միասին, քաղցկեղի առաջացմանը նպաստում են նաև այլ գործոններ, ինչպիսիք են շաքարի խմորի, մսի՝ հատկապես խոզի, չափից ավել սպառումը։ Անառողջ սնունդն ընկած է քաղցկեղի առաջացման հիմքում։
