 ՀՀ վարչապետ Հովիկ Աբրահամյանի գլխավորությամբ քաղաքական, հասարակական գործիչները Եռաբլուրում ծաղիկ խոնարհեցին երջանկահիշատակ սպարապետ Վազգեն Սարգսյանի հիշատակին: «Արմենպրես»-ի փոխանցմամբ՝ մարտի 5-ին սպարապետի ծննդյան օրն է, նա այսօր կդառնար 57 տարեկան: Լրագրողների հետ զրույցում վարչապետ Հովիկ Ա բրահանյանը նշեց, որ Վազգեն Սարգսյանի երազած Հայաստանն ունենալու համար պետք է հնարավորինս համատեղել ջանքերը: «Հայ ժողովուրդը, իշխանությունները բարձր են գնահատում նրա ներդրումը մեր երկրի կայացման, Արցախի ազատագրման, Արցախի կայացման գործընթացներում: Եվ յուրաքանչյուր հայ պարտավոր է ուղղակի հիշել ու հարգել սպարապետի հիշատակը: Մեր ապագա սերունդը թող հիշի, որ ունեցել ենք նման գործիչ»,-ասաց Հովիկ Աբրահամյանը:

ՀՀ պաշտպանության նախարար Սեյրան Օհանյանն էլ նշեց, որ մեծ է սպարապետի ավանդը սերունդների ռազմահայրենասիրական դաստիարակության գործում: «Գտնում եմ, որ Վազգեն Սարգսյանի կերպարը պետք է օրինակ հանդիսանա բոլորի համար: Մենք պետք է նրա պատգամները կիսատ չթողնենք: Այն արդյունքը, որ ունեցել ենք նրա հետ մեր ղեկավարման ընթացքում, պետք է որոշակի հենք հանդիսանա, որ կառուցենք մեր ապագան»,-ընդգծեց նախարարը:

 «ՀՀ Ազգային հերոս», «Արցախի հերոս», «Ոսկե արծիվ» շքանշանի ասպետ Վազգեն Զավենի Սարգսյանը ծնվել է 1959 թվականիմարտի 5-ին Արարատի մարզի Արարատ գյուղում։ Նախնական կրթությունը ստացել է հայրենի գյուղի միջնակարգ դպրոցում,ավարտելուց հետո ընդունվել և ավարտել է ՖիզիÕ �ական կուլտուրայի հայկական պետական ինստիտուտը: 1985 թվականինդարձել է Հայաստանի Գրողների միության անդամ: Առաջին պատմվածքը լույս է տեսել «Գարուն» ամսագրում՝ «Վերջը»վերնագրով։1988 թվականին լույս է տեսել նրա պատմվածքների ժողովածուն՝ «Հացի փորձություն» խորագրով։ Աշխատակցել է«Գարուն» ամսագրին՝ որպես գովազդային-քարոզչական բաժնի վարիչ: 1990-1995-ին ընտրվել է Հայաստանի Գերագույն խորհրդիպատգամավոր, որի ընթացքում՝ 1990-1992 թթ հանդիսացել է Գերագույն խորհրդի պաշտպանության և ներքին գործերի մշտականհանձնաժողովի նախագահ, 1991-1992՝ՀՀ պաշտպանության նախարար, 1992-1993՝ ՀՀ< i> նախագահի խորհրդականպաշտպանության հարցերի գծով, ՀՀ սահմանամերձ գոտիներում ՀՀ նախագահի հատուկ ներկայացուցիչ, 1993-1995՝ ՀՀպաշտպանության, ազգային անվտանգության և ներքին գործերի գծով պետնախարար: 1995 թվականին կրկին նշանակվել է ՀՀպաշտպանության նախարար, իսկ 1999-ին՝ դարձել ՀՀ վարչապետ:  

Սպանվել է 1999 թվականի հոկտեմբերի 27-ին Ազգային ժողովի նիստերում դահլիճում զինված անձանց հարձակման հետևանքով:
