Ժամանակակից աշխարհում շուրջ 62 մլն աղջիկներ զրկված են կրթություն ստանալու իրավունքից, 500 մլն կանայք կարդալ չգիտեն, իսկ 155 երկրներում խտրական օրենքներ են գործում սեռական հատկանիշով: Այս տվյալները ներկայացված են պետությունների ղեկավարներին հղված բաց ուղերձում, որը մարտի 8-ի նախօրեին հրապարակել են շոու-բիզնեսի տասնյակ աստղեր, ներառյալ հեռուստահաղորդավա րուհի Օփրա Ուինֆրին, Microsoft ընկերության հիմնադրի կինը՝ Մելինդա Գեյթսը, ԱՄՆ-ի նախկին պետքարտուղար Քոնդոլիզա Ռայսը, դերասանուհիներ Մերիլ Սթրիփը, Շարլիզ Թերոնը, երաժիշտ Էլթոն Ջոնը, նախկին բռնցքամարտիկ Մոհամեդ Ալին եւ շատ ուրիշներ:

Նրանք հորդորում են քաղաքական գործիչներին՝ միասնական միջոցներ ձեռնարկել սեռերի անհավասարության շուտափույթ վերացման նպատակով: «Աշխարհում ոչ մի տեղ կանանց համար նույնքան հնարավորություններ չեն բացվել, որքան տղամարդկանց համար: Ոչ մի տեղ: Սեռային հատկանիշով իրավահավասարության համար պայքարը պետք է գլոբալ լինի»,- նշվում է ուղերձում: Այն ստորագրել են նաեւ դերասաններ Թինա Ֆեյը, Ռոբերտ Ռետֆորդը, Քոլին Ֆարելը, Պատրիցիա Արկետը, Քեթի Հոլմսը, Մերի Ջեյ Բլայջը, երգչուհի Ջենիֆեր Լոպեսը, լրագրողուհի Մարիա Շրայվերը (հեռացել է դերասան Առնոլդ Շվարցենեգերից, բայց նրանց ամուսնությունը լուծարված չէ):

Ուղերձի հեղինակները միավորված են ONE անվանումը կրող հասարակական կազմակերպության մեջ, որն ստեղծել է U2 իռլանդական ռոք-խմբի առաջատար Բոնոն՝ ամբողջ աշխարհում աղքատությանն ու հիվանդություններին հակազդելու նպատակով: Անցյալ տարի միավորումը զեկույց եւ ուղերձ էր պատրաստել, որով կոչ էր արվում աշխարհի ղեկավարներին՝ նպաստել մարդկության համար առավել հրատապ որոշումների ընդունման գործընթացում թույլ սեռի ներկայացուցիչների ներգրավմանը: Այս տարի խնդրագիրը նվիրված է կանանց ճանապարհին արհեստական խոչընդոտների վերացմանը կյանքի տասը կոնկրետ ոլորտներում, ներառյալ կրթությունը, առողջապահությունը, սնունդը, տեղեկատվությունից օգտվելը:

Առանձնակի ուշադրություն է դարձված ՁԻԱՀ-ի, տուբերկուլյոզի եւ մալարիայի դեմ պայքարին: Ակցիայի մասնակիցներն անհրաժեշտ են համարում միայն այս տարի այդ նպատակներով հանգանակել առնվազն 13 մլրդ դոլար գումարի կամավոր նվիրատվություններ, հաղորդել է ՏԱՍՍ-ը:
