Ինչպես երիտասարդ մայրիկների մեծ մասը՝ Մելլորի Սմոզերսը նույնպես կանգնած էր բարդ ընտրության առաջ. կերակրել նոր ծնված երեխային կրծքո՞վ, թե՞ պահպանել կազմվածքը, և փոխարինել կաթն արհեստական կերով: Ամեն ինչ լավ ծանր ու թեթև անելով՝ Մելլորին որոշեց, որ փոքրիկի առողջությունից առավել թանկ ու կարևոր բան չկա: Այդ պատճառով էլ նա սկսեց կերակրել դստերը բնական ճանապարհով՝ կրծքով:
Սկզբում մայրիկը շատ էր անհանգստանում, արդյոք նա ամեն ինչ ճիշտ էր անում: Ժամանակ առ ժամանակ Մելլորին կթում էր իր կաթը՝ որակը ստուգելու համար: Կինն անհանգստանում էր, որ իր կաթը շատ ջրիկ է, և երեխային կարող էր լրացուցիչ սնունդ հարկավոր լինել:
Վերջերս, երիտասարդ մայրիկը ինչ-որ տարօրինակ բան նկատեց. Իր կաթի գույնը խիստ փոխվել էր: Այդ փաստը շատ անհանգստացրեց Մելլորին և նա շտապեց հիվանդանոց՝ պարզելու համար, թե բանն ինչումն է:
Բժիշկները նրան հանգստացրեցին, ասացին, որ անհանգստանալու ոչ մի առիթ չկա: Կաթի գույնը կախված է մայրիկի սննդակարգից: Օրինակ, եթե մայրիկը կերել է շատ քանակությամբ կարոտին պարունակող մթերքներ (գազար կամ դդում), ապա նրա կաթը կունենա նարնջագույն երանգ:
Ավելին, կաթի գույնը փոխվում է նույնիսկ մեկ կերակրման ընթացքում: Սկզբում փոքրիկը ծծում է ջրիկ «առաջնային» կաթը: Իսկ հետո գեղձերը սկսում են արտադրել յուղոտ «հետին» կաթը, որն ավելի խիտ է և կրեմագույն է:
Նաև, մոր օրգանիզմը միշտ արձագանքում է երեխայի պահանջներին և արտադրում է այնպիսի կաթ, որը պետք է փոքրիկին զարգացման տվյալ փուլում: Պարզվում է, կրծքով կերակրման գործընթացի ժամանակ մոր օրգանիզմը անալիզի է ենթարկում փոքրիկի թուքը: Եվ կախված դրա բաղադրությունից՝ կաթնագեղձերը սկսում են արտադրել այս կամ այն նյութերը:
Այնպես որ, կրծքի կաթը ոչ միայն սննդարար կերակուր է, այլ նաև ունիվերսալ պատվաստում շատ հիվանդությունների դեմ: Եվ եթե դրա գույնը փոխվել է, դա ընդհանրապես անհանգստանալու առիթ չէ: Ընդհակառակը, դա նշանակում է, որ մայրիկի օրգանիզմն աշխատում է ինչպես հարկն է:
