Մայիսի 28-ը հայ ժողովրդի համար ամենանշանավոր տոներից մեկն է: 1918 թվականի հենց այս օրը հայի հզոր կամքի եւ պայքարի ապացույցը դարձավ եւ դրսեւորվեց Հայաստանի Առաջին Հանրապետության հռչակումով:

Հայի թերեւս ամենակարեւոր ձեռքբերումներից մեկի` Մայիսի 28-ի վերաբերյալ Orer.am-ը զրուցեց «Արաբո» ջոկատի հրամանատար Մանվել Եղիազարյանի հետ.

«Իհարկե, ես ուրախ եմ, որ 1918 թվականին տեղի ունեցավ Հայաստանի Առաջին Հանրապետության հռչակումը, սակայն տխրում եմ, որ մենք չկարողացանք պահպանել այն: Մարդիկ մշտապես հարց են տալիս՝ լավ իսկ ինչո՞ւ դարձանք բոլշեւիկ: Կարծում եմ հարցը մի քանի պատասխան ունի. հավանաբար այդ ժամանակ եւս տիրել է նույն վիճակը, ինչ հիմա` սոցիալ տնտեսական ճգնաժամ, քաղաքական խնդիրներ եւ այլն:

Ես պատմաբան չեմ, բայց կարծես թե պատմությունը կրկնվում է: Այսօր հասարակությունն ու հայրենիքն ասես մի մարմին չլինեն: Մենք պարտավոր ենք այս անգամ այնպես անել, որ մեր անկախությունը պարզապես չկորցնենք»:

Հարցին, թե որոնք են այն պատճառները, որոնք խոչընդոտում են հայ ազգին երկար ժամանակով պահպանել իր պետականությունն ու անկախությունը, Մանվել Եղիազարյանը պատասխանեց.

«Երբ մարդիկ հարմարվում են արտաքին ուժերին, ամեն ինչ լինում է այնպես, ինչպես տեսնում ենք պատմության գրքերում: Մենք պետք է հստակ իմանանք, թե ինչպես ենք ուզում ապրել: Ես ձեզ վստահեցնում եմ, որ մենք պետք է ցույց տանք աշխարհին մեր ժողովրդի ամենադրական կողմերը, ոչ թե վախկոտներին հերոսի կոչումներ տանք: Ժողովրդի մեջ չպետք է աղավաղվի հերոսի, հզոր մարդու կերպարը»:

Հրամանատարը մեծ ափսոսանքով հավելեց նաեւ, որ այսօրվա Հայաստանում հավուր պատշաճի չեն գնահատվում այն մարդիկ, ովքեր պատրաստ են սեփական հայրենիքի համար պայքար տալ ու կյանք զոհել.

«Այն մարդկանց, ովքեր նվիրված են հայրենիքը պաշտպանելու իրենց գործին եւ կարող են իրենց կյանքը զոհել հայրենիքի համար, պարզապես տեղ չեն տալիս»:

Զրույցի ավարտին Մանվել Եղիազարյանը նաեւ նշեց, որ հայ ժողովուրդը պետք է կատարելագործվի ու ճիշտ գաղափարախոսությամբ ու արժեքներով դաստիարակի հայ երիտասարդներին:
