Ամերիկացի հոգեբանների կարծիքով, շոկոլադի վերջին կտորի վրա մարդու ընկալման սրությունն ու մոտիվացիան ուժգնանում է։
Հոգեբանները կարծում են, որ գործընթացը շուտափույթ ավարտելու գիտակցումը առաջացնում է մոտիվացիայի փայլատակում, որի դեպքում մարդը ցանկանում է կամ հաճույքը վերջում վայելել (եթե գործընթացը հաճելի ), կամ իր համար որևէ լավ կամ օգտակար բան քաղել (եթե գործընթացը նրան անտարբեր է թողնում)։ Եթե պրոցեսը բացասական է, ապա մոտիվացիան մեծանում է «շուտափույթ ազատվելու» գաղափարից․ այս դեպքում մարդը կարող է սովորականից ավելի շատ ջանք թափել, որպեսզի հնարավորինս շուտ ավարտի տհաճ պրոցեսը։
Ամեն դեպքում, գիտնականները կարծում են, որ «եզրափակիչ փուլ» հասնելիս մոտիվացիայի մակարդակը կտրուկ բարձրանում է։ Այս վիճակը կարելի է առաջացնել նաև արհեստականորեն, մարդուն պարզապես համոզելով, որ վերջն արդեն մոտ է։
Ըստ Օ Բրայենի, փորձի արդյունքներն առնչվում են մարդու ընդհանուր գաղափարների լավատեսական բնույթի հետ։
