ԱՄՆ-ի նախագահ Բարաք Օբաման այն կարծիքին է, որ Կոնգրեսը Կուբայի դեմ սահմանված ամերիկյան առեւտրատնտեսական էմբարգոն կվերացվի արդեն այն բանից հետո, երբ երկրի բարձրագույն պետական պաշտոնում իրեն կփոխարինի մեկ ուրիշը: Այդ մասին,Սպիտակ տան ղեկավարը հայտարարել է CNN հեռուստաընկերությանը տված հարցազրույցում, որը մասամբ հրապարակվել է մարտի 14-ին:
«Վստահորեն կանխատեսում եմ, որ հաջորդ վարչակազմի օրոք, լինի այն դեմոկրատական, թե հանրապետական, այդ բռնարգելքն իրապես կհանվի»,- նշել է Օբաման, որի նախագահական ժամկետը լրանում Է հաջորդ տարվա հունվարին: Նրա խոսքով՝ ներկայում դեռեւս չկան անհրաժեշտ թվով օրենսդիրներ, որոնք պատրաստ լինեն պաշտպանել Կուբայի դեմ գործող սահմանափակիչ միջոցների չեղարկումը, բայց ապագայում իրադրությունը, ամենայն հավանականությամբ, կփոխվի:
Օբաման իր տիկնոջ՝ Միշելի ուղեկցությամբ մարտի 21-ին այցով կժամանի Կուբա եւ կդառնա վերջին 88 տարվա ընթացքում կղզի այցելած ԱՄՆ-ի առաջին գործող ղեկավարը:
ԱՄՆ-ը Կուբայի հետ դիվանագիտական հարաբերությունները խզել է 1961 թվականին Հավանայի իշխանությունների կողմից կղզում ամերիկյան սեփականության ազգայնացումից հետո: Այդ ժամանակ էլ Վաշինգտոնը հայտարարեց Կուբայի դեմ միակողմանի առեւտրատնտեսական էմբարգո սահմանելու մասին, հաղորդել է ՏԱՍՍ-ը:
