 Ռուսաստանցիների հարցված քաղաքացիների կեսից ավելին (64 տոկոսը) կքվեարկեր ԽՍՀՄ-ի պահպանման օգտին, եթե հանրաքվե անցկացվեր այդ թեմայի շուրջ: Այս մասին են վկայում Հասարակական կարծիքի ուսումնասիրման համառուսաստանյան կենտրոնի (ՀԿՈւՀԿ) անցկացրած հարցման արդյունքները, որոնք մարտի 16-ին հրապարակվել են կազմակերպության կայքում:

«ԽՍՀՄ-ի պահպանման շուրջ առաջին հանրաքվեի անցկացումից (1991 թվականի մարտի 17) 25 տարի անց քաղաքացիների մեծամասնությունը վերստին պատրաստակամություն Է հայտնել հաստատական պատասխան տալ: Այսպես, ռուսաստանցիների 64 տոկոսը հայտարարում Է, որ կքվեարկեր ԽՍՀՄ-ի պահպանման օգտին»,-ասված Է սոցհարցման նյութերում: Նորացված տեսքով Խորհրդային Միության պահպանման վերաբերյալ հարցին բացասական պատասխան Է տվել ՌԴ-ի քաղաքացիների 20 տոկոսը:

Ժամանակակիցները ԽՍՀՄ-ի պահպանման հարցում ժողովրդական կամաարտահայտման չկատարման գլխավոր մեղավորներ են համարում Միխայիլ Գորբաչովին (27 տոկոս) եւ նրա թիմին, ամբողջ բարձրագույն իշխանությանը (17 տոկոս), Բորիս Ելցինին եւ նրա զինակիցներին (13 տոկոս): ԱՄՆ-ի եւ արեւմտյան այլ երկրների ազդեցությունը մատնանշում Է հարցվածների միայն 2 տոկոսը, եւ միայն մեկ տոկոսն Է այն կարծիքին, որ մեղավորներ ընդհանրապես չեն եղել: Սակայն շատերը դժվարացել են պատասխանել այն հարցը, թե ով Է ԽՍՀՄ-ի փլուզման մեղավորը (40 տոկոսը չի կարողացել որոշակի պատասխան տալ), հաղորդել Է ՏԱԱՍ-ը:
