Տարեսկզբից Միջերկրական ծովով Եվրոպա են ժամանել 154 հազար 886 միգրանտներ ու փախստականներ, ընդ որում՝ 467 մարդ զոհվել կամ անհետ կորել են՝ փորձելով հասնել եվրոպական երկրներ: Այդ մասին մարտի 18-ին հայտնել Է Միգրացիայի միջազգային կազմակերպությունը (ՄՄԿ) :
«ՄՄԿ-ի գնահատումների համաձայն՝ Եվրոպա ժամանած միգրանտների ու փախստականների թիվը մոտենում Է 155 հազարին»,-Ժնեւում կայացած մամուլի ասուլիսում հայտարարել Է այդ կազմակերպության ներկայակցուցիչ Ջոել Միլմանը, հիշեցնելով, որ անցյալ տարվա համապատասխան ժամանակաշրջանում Մերձավոր Արեւելքի եւ Աֆրիկայի երկրներից ժամանել Էր 20 հազարից պակաս մարդ:
«Ըստ ՄՄԿ-ի տվյալների՝ 2016 թվականի սկզբից Հունաստան են ժամանել 143 հազար 886 միգրանտներ ու փախստականներ, Իտալիա՝ 11 հազար: 2014 թվականից ի վեր Հունաստան, Իտալիա, Իսպանիա, Կիպրոս եւ Մալթա ժամանածների թիվը կազմել Է շուրջ 1,4 միլիոն: «2015 թվականից ի վեր ծովով Հունաստան են ժամանել շուրջ 997 հազար միգրանտներ ու փախստականներ, իսկ ցամաքային ճանապարհով ժամանածների հաշվառմամբ նրանց թիվը 1 միլիոնից ավելի Է»,-նշել Է Միլմանը:
Մարտի 15-ի եւ 17-ի միջեւ ընկած ժամանակաշրջանում Սիցիլիական նեղուցում փրկվել Է շուրջ 2400 մարդ: Դրանք հիմնականում Էրիթրեացիներ են ու նաեւ Արեւմտյան Աֆրիկայից սերվածներ: ՄՄԿ-ի գնահատումների համաձայն՝ տարեսկզբից ծովում զոհվել են 467 միգրանտներ ու փախստականներ: Անցյալ տարվա առաջին երեք ամսվա ընթացքում զոհվել եւ անհետ կորել Էր 505 մարդ, հաղորդել Է ՏԱՍՍ-ը:
