Բրիտանական մամուլն անդրադարձել է Ադրբեջանի նախագահ Իլհամ Ալիեւին` քաղաքական բանտարկյալների մի մասին ազատ արձակելուն հարկադրելու պատճառներին:

The Economist հանդեսը գրում է, որ «արտասահմանյան քննադատներին գնելու նպատակով ավանդաբար «խավիարային դիվանագիտությունից» օգտվող Ալիեւի փողը նավթի գների անկման հետեւանքով խիստ պակասել է, եւ այդ պատճառով նա պետք է այլ տարբերակ գտներ…»:

Ըստ թերթի` անգլիացի վերլուծաբանները գտնում են, որ Իլհամ Ալիեւը հարկադրված է կատարել մի քանի քաղբանտարկյալների ազատ արձակելու քայլը:

«Ադրբեջանում 14 այլադավան ազատ արձակվեցին, իսկ մնացած մեծ մասը դեռ բանտում է: Նավթով հարուստ երկրի բռնապետական ռեժիմն աշխատում է մարտի 31-ին ծրագրված Վաշինգտոնի միջուկային գագաթնաժողովի շեմին վերականգնել իր ռեկորդային բացասական հեղինակությունը», -առաջին էջում գրել է The Economist-ը”

«Ադրբեջանն առանց քաղբանտարկյալների» հասարակական դաշինքի ղեկավար Օգթայ Գյուլալիեւը ընդամենը 14 քաղբանտարկյալներին ներելը «մեծ սպասումների ֆոնին փոքր քայլ» է անվանել:

«Բացասական միտում է, երբ մի քանի քաղբանտարկյալի ազատ արձակելուց հետո իշխանությունները ձերբակալում են նորերին: Այդ պատճառով, արդեն երկար ժամանակ Ադրբեջանում քաղբանտարկյալների թիվը գտնվում է 100 մարդու մակարդակին», -ասել է նա:

Ադրբեջանում բոլոր քաղբանտարկյալներին ազատ արձակելու կոչով իշխանություններին դիմել են ԱՄՆ պետքարտուղարությունը, ԱՄՆ կոնգրեսի Եվրոպայում անվտանգության եւ համագործակցության հանձնաժողովի նախագահ Քրիս Սմիթը, Եվրախորհրդարանի մարդու իրավունքների գծով փոխնախագահ Ալեքսանդր Լամբսդորֆը, միջազգային 21 կազմակերպություն:

Միջազգային եւ ադրբեջանական իրավապաշտպան կազմակերպությունների համաձայն` Ադրբեջանի բանտերում դեռեւս 93 քաղաքական բանտարկյալներ կան, որոնցից 28-ը համարվում են «խղճի բանտարկյալներ»:
