ՀՀ Նախագահ, Հայաստանի շախմատի ֆեդերացիայի նախագահ Սերժ Սարգսյանը մարտի 23-ին Տիգրան Պետրոսյանի անվան շախմատի տանը ներկա է գտնվել Հայաստանի շախմատի ֆեդերացիայի պատվավոր նախագահ, ՖԻԴԵ-ի պատվավոր փոխնախագահ, ԳԱԱ ակադեմիկոս Վանիկ Զաքարյանի 80-ամյակին նվիրված հանդիսավոր միջոցառմանը:
Ինչպես «Արմենպրես»-ին տեղեկացրին ՀՀ Նախագահի աշխատակազմի հասարակայնության և տեղեկատվության միջոցների հետ կապերի վարչությունից, միջոցառման շրջանակներում անցկացվել է կայծակնային շախմատի մրցաշար, որին մասնակցել են հայկական շախմատի երեք սերունդները ներկայացնող շախմատիստներ՝ Հայաստանի ուժեղագույն վետերանները, ներկայիս ուժեղագույն շախմատիստները, ինչպես նաև նոր սերնդի դեռևս պատանի, բայց արդեն միջազգային հարթակում հաջողություններ գրանցած շախմատիստները: Ցուցադրվել է նաև Վանիկ Զաքարյանի մաս ին պատմող փաստագրական ֆիլմ:
Մրցաշարի ավարտից հետո տեղի է ունեցել փակման և մրցանակների հանձնման հանդիսավոր արարողությունը:
Սերժ Սարգսյանը բարձր է գնահատել Վանիկ Զաքարյանի վաստակը Հայաստանում շախմատի զարգացման և հանրահռչակման գործում, շնորհակալություն հայտնել նրան, ընդգծելով, որ դեռևս 1990-ական թվականների սկզբներին, հաղթահարելով բազմաթիվ դժվարություններ, Վանիկ Զաքարյանը կարողացավ միջոցներ գտնել և հնարավորություններ ստեղծել, որպեսզի երեխաները կարողանան շախմատ պարապել, որպեսզի մեր շախմատիստները մասնակցեն միջազգային մրցաշարերին և լուրջ հաջողությունների հասնեն: Շախմատի ֆեդերացիայի նախագահի պաշտոնը թողնելուց հետո էլ, ըստ ՀՀ Նախագահի, պարոն Զաքարյանը շաունակում է ապրել շախմատային կյանքով՝ ցավում մեր շախմատիստների անհաջողությունների համար, ուրախանում նրանց հաղթանակներով: Սերժ Սարգսյանն ակնառու է համարել նաև Վանիկ Զաքարյանի ձեռքբերումները գիտության բնագավառում՝ նշելով, որ երկու ոլորտներում էլ նրա վաստակը գնահատվել է պետության կողմից և հավաստիացրել, որ մոտակա համապետական միջոցառումների ժամանակ կգնահատվի նրա կատարած աշխատանքը նաև նրա տարիքի բարձրությունից: Հանրապետության Նախագահը հույս է հայտնել, որ անվանի մտավորականը դեռ երկար տարիներ օգտակար կլինի շախմատին:
