1999 թվականի մարտի 24-ին ՆԱՏՕ-ն սկսեց ռմբակոծել Հարավսլավիան։ 78 օր տևած ռազմական ագրեսիայի ընթացքում Հյուսիսատլանտյան դաշինքը Հարավսլավիայի Դաշնային Հանրապետության (ՀԴՀ) դեմ օգտագործեց 1200 ինքնաթիռ, որոնք 25 հազար թռիչք իրականացրեցին։
Պենտագոնի տվյալներով 23 հազար ռումբ և հրթիռ է օգտագործվել: Միայն պատերազմից տարիներ հետո պարզվեց, որ ՆԱՏՕ-ի ռմբակոծությունների պատճառով սերբական բանակի կորուստները խիստ չափազանցված էին։
Սերբերը, սակայն, չէին օգտագործել իրենց բոլոր հնարավորությունները, մասնավորապես` չէին փորձել ներքաշել ՆԱՏՕ-ին ցամաքային պատերազմի մեջ, որում կարող էին լիարժեք օգտագործել իրենց պոտենցիալը։
Գործողության սկզբից մինչև ավարտն ավելանում էր ավիացիայի քանակը։ Քանակի ավելացումը հիմնականում պայմանավորված էր ԱՄՆ-ի՝ ավիացիայի տրամադրմամբ։ ԱՄՆ-ի ռազմական ինքնաթիռների թիվը 122-ից հասավ 357, ՆԱՏՕ-ի եվրոպական երկրներինը՝ 102-ից 233-ի։
Մարդկային կորուստներից հայտնի են հետևյալ թվերը՝ ընդհանուր 489-528 խաղաղ բնակիչ է զոհվել: Նրանցից 278-317զոհվել են Կոսովոյում, Սերբիայում՝ 201, Չեռնոգորիայում՝ 8։ Հակամարտող կողմերը մինչև օրս հրաժարվում են խոստովանել սեփական կորուստների մասին։
