Մարդու աչքերն ունեն 3 տեսակի ռեցեպտորներ՝ կարմիր, կանաչ և կապույտ։ Երբ մարդն երկար նայում է գունավոր պատկերին՝ ռեցեպտորները սկսում են հոգնել։ Եվ լուսանկարի կտրուկ սև սպիտակով փոխարինման ժամանակ, ռեցեպտորները չեն հասցնում ադապտացվել։ Արդյունքում հայտնվող լուսանկարը Ձեզ նույնպես կթվա գունավոր։ Այդ երևույթը կոչվում է մնացորդային պատկերներ։
