Կուբայի հեղափոխության առաջնորդ Ֆիդել Կաստրոն թերահավատություն Է հայտնել ԱՄՆ-ի նախագահ Բարաք Օբամայի՝ երկու երկրների մերձեցման վերաբերյալ ասածների վերաբերյալ:

Անցած շաբաթ Միացյալ Նահանգների ղեկավարը Կուբա կատարած այցի ընթացքում հանդես Է եկել ճառով, որում հայտարարել Է, թե «սառը պատերազմի» ժառանգությանը վերջ Է դրված, եւ Վաշինգտոնը Հավանային բարեկամության ձեռք Է մեկնում:

Մարտի 28-ին Ֆիդել Կաստրոն Granma թերթում հրապարակել Է մի նյութ, որը նվիրված Է ԱՄՆ-ի նախագահի այցին եւ վերնագրված Է «Եղբայր Օբաման»: Իր հոդվածում հեղինակը Օբամայի խոսքերը հեգնանքով որակում Է «մեղրածոր»:  

«Կարելի Էր սրտի կաթված ստանալ՝ լսելով ԱՄՆ-ի նախագահին»,-գրում Է Կաստրոն՝ թվելով վերջին 60 տարվա ընթացքում ամերիկյան իշխանությունների՝ Կուբայի դեմ գործած թշնամական արարքները:   

«Չպետք Է պատրանքներ տածել, որ այսքան ազնվաբարո եւ անձնուրաց ժողովուրդը կհրաժարվի իր փառքից եւ իր իրավունքներից… Մենք ինքներս կարող ենք պարենամթերք եւ նյութական բարիքներ արտադրել, որոնց կարիքն ունենք… Մեզ նվերներ հարկավոր չեն կայսրությունից»,-ասված Է հոդվածում:   

Օբաման 2014 թվականի վերջին հայտարարել Է Հավանայի հետ հարաբերությունների բարելավման գործընթաց սկսելու մասին: Նրա այցը Կուբա ԱՄՆ-ի նախագահի համար առաջինն Էր վերջին 90 տարվա ընթացքում եւ այդօրինակ առաջին ուղեւորությունն Էր 1960-ական թվականներին երկու երկրների միջեւ հարաբերությունների խզման պահից ի վեր, հաղորդել Է ՌԻԱ Նովոստին:
