Կնոջ կոնքի ոսկրերը փոխվում են ամբողջ կյանքի ընթացքում` ընդունելով այնպիսի ձեւ, որն առավել հարմար է մանկածնական գործընթացի համար, պարզել են Ցյուրիխի համալսարանի գիտնականները: Հայտնագործությունը ստիպում է վերանայել այն տեսությունը, որի համաձայն, կոնքի լայնությունը ծննդաբերելու պահանջի եւ ուղիղ քայլելու միջեւ փոխզիջման հետեւանք է: 

Գիտնականները տղամարդու եւ կնոջ կոնքերի միջեւ տարբերությունն ավանդաբար բացատրում են մանկաբարձական երկընտրանքի հիպոթեզով. լայն կոնքն անհրաժեշտ է  երեխաներ ծննդաբերելու համար, որոնք գլխի համեմատաբար մեծ ծավալներ ունեն, սակայն ուղիղ քայլելը նեղ կոնք է պահանջում: Վերջերս այդ հիպոթեզը վիճարկվել է գիտական նոր տվյալների ի հայտ գալու շնորհիվ, այդ պատճառով անհայտ է, թե ինչ գործոններ են ազդում սեռական տարբերությունների վրա: 

Գիտնականները համակարգչային տոմոգրաֆիայի օգնությամբ հետազոտել են նորածնի տարիքից մինչեւ 95 տարեկան 275 տղամարդու եւ կնոջ կոնքի ոսկրերի զարգացումը: Արդյունքները ցույց են տվել, որ մոտավորապես 10 տարեկանից, սեռահասունացման շրջանի սկզբում, տղամարդկանց եւ կանանց մոտ կոնքային ոսկրերի զարգացումը սկսում է էականորեն տարբերվել:  25 տարեկան հասակում լայն կոնք է ձեւավորվում, որը լավ հարմարեցված է մանկածնության համար: 

Կոնքի կառուցվածքի ամենամեծ սեռական դիմորֆիզմի ժամանակաշրջանը  25-30 տարեկանն է, իսկ 40-45 տարեկանում ոսկրերը դարձյալ սկսում են փոփոխվել, ավելի նման են դառնում տղամարդկայինի, դրան հետեւող` ծննդյան ուղու հետագա փոքրացմամբ: Գիտնականները ենթադրում են, որ կոնքային ոսկրերի զարգացումը պայմանավորված է սեռական հասունացման եւ դաշտանադադարի շրջանում հորմոնային փոփոխություններով, այն է` էստրադիոլի մակարդակի տատանումներով: 

Հետազոտության արդյունքները հրապարակվել են Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences ամսագրում:
