Հայոց ցեղասպանությունից նույնիսկ 100 տարի անց հայ ժողովրդի սրտումը խորը վերք կա, քանի դեռ ցեղասպանությունը և մարդու իրավունքների լուրջ խախտումները շարունակում են մնալ պատերազմի գործիքներ 21-րդ դարում: Նման հայտարարությամբ ԱՄՆ Կոնգրեսում հանդես եկավ Ռոդ Այլենդը ներկայացնող դեմոկրատ կոնգրեսական Դեվիդ Սիսիլինին:

«Գրեթե որևէ շաբաթ չի անցնում, որ տեղեկություններ չլինեն աշխարհի մի որևէ կետում մարդու իրավունքների ահավոր խախտումների մասին: Դրանց կանգնեցնելու առաջին քայլը դրանք ճանաչելն է, և հենց այդ նպատակով կարևոր է, որ ԱՄՆ կառավարությունը ճանաչի Հայոց ցեղասպանությունը և այն անվանի ինչ, որ այն իրականում կա կամ կար` Օսմանյան կայսրության կողմից հայ ժողովրդին ոչնչացնելու համակարգված փորձ»,- ընդգծել է դեմոկրատ կոնգրեսականը:

Սիսիլինին շեշտել է նաև, որ այսօր էլ Հայաստանի ժողովուրդն ունի բազմաթիվ մարտահրավերներ: «Բոլորս էլ գիտենք, որ այս ամսվա սկզբին կրկին բռնություններ սկսվեցին Լեռնային Ղարաբաղում: Խիստ կարևոր է, որ ԱՄՆ շարունակի ներգրավված մնալ այս հակամարտության կարգավորման գործում»,- նշել է ամերիկացի օրենսդիրը:

Նրա խոսքով` շարունակելով ներկա ճգնաժամը կարգավորելուն ուղղված ԱՄՆ ջանքերը` միաժամանակ էական է, որ ԱՄՆ-ում շեշտվի Հայոց ցեղասպանության ճանաչման անհրաժեշտությունը: «Պատմությունը հստակ է. 101 տարի առաջ Օսմանյան կայսրությունում ապրող ավելի քան 1.5 միլիոն հայեր բռնի և համակարգված կերպով ոչնչացվել են: Դա կարծիք չէ, մեկնաբանություն չէ, ոչ էլ մեղադրանք է, դա փաստ է»,- ասել է Սիսիլինին: Նա մեջբերել է նաև 1915թ-ի հուլիսի 10-ին Օսմանյան կայսրությունում ԱՄՆ դեսպանի գրությունը, որում հայերի նկատմամբ հետապնդումներն անվանել է «խաղաղ հայ բնակչությ անը արմատախիլ անելու համակարգված փորձ»: «101 տարի անց ժամանակն է, որ ԱՄՆ կառավարությունը և նախագահը ճանաչեն այս իրողությունը որպես 20-րդ դարի առաջին ցեղասպանություն»,- ընդգծել է Դեվիդ Սիսիլինին:

Ամփոփելով ելույթը կոնգրեսական մեջբերել է Ֆրանցիսկոս պապի խոսքերը. «Ճշմարտությունը չճանաչելը կամ ծածկելը նշանակում է թույլ տալ, որ վերքը շարունակի արնահոսել առանց այն վիրակապելու»
