Առաջին եվրոպացին որ ճաշակել է «Չիլի» պղպեղ, եղել է Քրիստափոր Կոլումբոսը 1493թ.-ին: Մեկ դարի ընթացքում, այն տարածվեց ամբողջ աշխարհով մեկ:
