Արցախում հերոսաբար զոհված ավագ լեյտենանտ Աշոտ Շահբազյանը Շիրակի մարզի Ախուրյան համայնքից էր: Դ
պրոցական տարիներից ֆուտբոլով հետաքրքրվող տղան դպրոցն ավարտելուց հետո որոշում է դառնալ զինվորական և ընդունվում է Վազգեն Սարգսյանի անվան ռազմական ինստիտուտ:
Աշոտը պատահական չի ընտրում ռազմական ուղին, նա կրում էր հոր հորեղբոր որդու անունը, ով զոհվել էր Արցախյան ազատամարտի ժամանակ:
Աշոտի հայրը՝ Կարապետ Շահբազյանը, Արցախյան ազատամարտի մասնակից է: Նա իր 6 հոգանոց խմբով, որոնք Շահբազյանների տոհմից էին, մեկնում է Արցախ՝ պաշտպանելու հայրենիքը:
6 հոգանոց խմբից միայն ինքն է վերադառնում, ունենում երկու որդի, որոնց տալիս է հորեղբոր որդիների անունները:
Տղաներից մեկն էլ ապագա հերոս Աշոտն էր, ով, հարազատների բնութագրմամբ՝ մեղմ բնավորությամբ, խելացի ու բանիմաց տղա էր:
168.am-ի հետ զրույցում հերոսի մայրը՝ Լիաննա Շահբազյանը, պատմեց, որ Վազգեն Սարգսյանի անվան ռազմական ինստիտուտն ավարտելուց հետո Աշոտը վիճակահանությանը չի մասնակցել ու իր կամքով ընտրել է Ջեբրաիլը, որովհետև շատ էր սիրում այն:
«Ես դեմ չէի, որ տղաս ռազմական ուղին ընտրի, ես էլ եմ սիրում այդ մասնագիտությունը: Կապ չունի, որ հիմա իմ երեխեն չկա, ես նորից նույն մտքին եմ, մեր զինվորների հետ եմ,- ասում է մայրը՝ հավելելով, որ մյուս որդին ևս ռազմական ուղին է ընտրել,- Ուզում է պայմանագրային աշխատել, սպասում է հրամանին»:
