Հակազրպարտության լիգան, որը ԱՄՆ-ում գործող միջազգային հրեական հասարակական կազմակերպություն է, ուրբաթ հայտարարել է, որ 1915-ին սկսված 1.5 մլն հայերի կոտորածը միանշանակ ցեղասպանություն է եղել:
Ինչպես հաղորդում է The Boston Globe-ը` այս հայտարարությամբ Հակազրպարտության լիգան առաջին անգամ աջակցությունն է հայտնել ԱՄՆ կառավարությանը Ցեղասպանությունը ճանաչելու կոչին: Լիգայի գործադիր տնօրեն Ջոնաթան Գրինբլատտի հայտարարությունը հրապարակվել է կազմակերպության կայքէջում:
«Այն, ինչ տեղի է ունեցել հայ ժողովրդի հետ, միանշանակ ցեղասպանություն էր: Մենք հավատում ենք, որ հիշելն ու ուսուցանելը ցանկացած ցեղասպանության մասին, լինի դա Հայոց ցեղասպանությունը, Հոլոքոստը, Բոսնիայինը, Ռուանդայինը, անհրաժեշտ գործիք է ապագա ողբերգությունները կանխելու համար… Այդ իսկ պատճառով մենք այսօր բարձրաձայնում ենք այս մասին և աջակցում ԱՄՆ կառավարությանը Հայոց ցեղասպանությունը ճանաչելու հարցում», - ասվում է Գրինբլատտի հայտարարության մեջ:
Այս հայտարարությամբ կոչ է արվում ԱՄՆ նախագահ Բարաք Օբամային աջակցել «հայ-թուրքական հարաբերություններին` հիմք ընդունելով Թուրքիայի կողմից Հայոց ցեղասպանության փաստի ու շարունակվող հետևանքների ամբողջական ընդունումը, ինչպես նաև արդար և համապարփակ միջազգային որոշում ընդունել մարդկության դեմ իրագործված հանցագործության շուրջ»:
