Հայկական կողմը որոշ հատվածներում դիրքեր է զիջել, ու դրանց նշանակության, հետ բերելու հնարավորության ու նպատակահարմարության և տարածքների մեծության հարցերը թեժ քննարկումների առարկա են դարձել:
Քրննարկումները հաճախ ընթանում ռազմական տերմինաբանության կիրառմամբ, որին լսարանը կարող է և քաջատեղյակ չլինել, երբեմն էլ այդ տերմինները սխալ են կիրառվում, ինչն էլ ավելի է խճճում կամ ապատեղեկացնում ընթերցողին: PanARMENIAN.Net-ն ինտերակտիվ քարտեզով բացատրում է, ինչ է դիրքը, հենակետը, շփման գիծը ու առաջնագծի այլ կարևոր բաղկացուցիչները:

Քարտեզը ներկայացնում է Արցախի սահմանային գոտում կամայական ընտրված հայկական և ադրբեջանական զորքերի փոխդասավորությունը և չի փոփոխության ենթարկված հատվածներից որևէ մեկը: Մեր նպատակն է միայն ընդհանուր կարգով ծանոթացնել կարևոր ռազմական տերմիններին, որոնք թույլ կտան ընթերցողին ավելի լավ կողմնորոշվել նմանատիպ քննարկումների և տեղեկություն ընթերցելու ժամանակ։
Հարկավոր է նաև հաշվի առնել, որ X թվով դիրք կամ հենակետ կորցնելն ինքնստինքյան տարածքային էական կորուստներ չի ենթադրում, սակայն դրանք կարող են ունենալ կարևոր մարտավարական նշանակություն։ Միաշամանակ պետք է հիշել, որ դիրքերն ու հենակետերը սովորաբար առաջնագծի պաշտպանական համակարգի անընդհատ շղթայի մասն են կազմում (ինչպես Արցախի դեպքում), և դրանցից որևէ մեկը գրավելով՝ հակառակորդը կարող է հայտնվել այդ շղթայի հարևան օղակներից կրակային հարվածների տակ։
