2016 թվականին միջազգային Բուքերյան մրցանակի դափնեկիր է դարձել հարավկորեացի գրող Հան Կանգը, տեղեկացնում է «Արմենպրես»-ը՝ հղում անելով BBC News-ին: Պարգեւը նա ստացել է «Բուսակերուհին» նոր վեպի համար:
Գրքում պատմվում է Յոնգ Հայ անունով կնոջ ճակատագրի մասին, ով որոշել է դեմ գնալ հաստատված ավանդույթներին եւ դառնալ բուսակերուհի: Այդ քայլին ի վերջո հետեւում է նրա ընտանիքը: Վեպն անգլերեն է թարգմանել Դեբորա Սմիթը, որն սկսել է կորեերեն ուսումնասիրել 2010 թվականին:
Ժյուրիի նախագահ Բոյդ Տոնկինը հայտարարել է, որ նրա անդամները համակարծիք են եղել մրցանակը Հան Կանգին շնորհելու հարցում: Նրա խոսքով՝ «Բուսակերուհին» ինքնատիպ վեպ է, որը անջնջելի տպավորություն է թողնում:
Նաեւ «Բուքերին» հավակնում էին թուրք գրող Օրհան Փամուկը, իտալուհի Էլենա Ֆերանտեն, անգոլացի Ժոզե Էդուարդու Ագուալուզան, չինացի Յան Լյանկեն եւ ավստրիացի հեղինակ Ռոբերտ Սիտալերը:
50 հազար ֆունտ-ստեռլինգի չափով մրցանակը կբաժանվի հեղինակի եւ թարգմանչուհու միջեւ:
Միջազգային Բուքերյան մրցանակը հիմնվել է 2005 թվականին: Ի տարբերություն Բուքերյան մրցանակի, որին արժանանում են անգլալեզու այն գրողները, որոնց գրքերը հրապարակված են Մեծ Բրիտանիայում, այդ պարգեւը կարող է շնորհվել ինչպես անգլալեզու հեղինակի, այնպես էլ այն գրողին, որի ստեղծագործությունները թարգմանված են անգլերեն:
Մինչեւ 2015 թվականը մրցանակը գրողներին հանձնվում էր երկու տարին մեկ, հետագայում հայտարարվեց, որ դափնեկիրներին ընտրելու են ամեն տարի:
