98 տարի առաջ սկսվեց նորագույն հայկական պետականությունների պատմության դարաշրջանը

543 տարի պետականություն չունեցող հայ ժողովուրդն իր միաբանության, ուժի շնորհիվ 1918 թվականի մայիսի 28-ին կարողացավ հասնել այդքան ցանակալի ու սպասված անկախության.Հայաստանի առաջին հանրապետությունը հռչակվել է 1918 թ-ի մայիսի 28-ին և գոյատևել մինչև 1920 թ-ի դեկտեմբերի 2-ը: ՀՀ տարածքը հռչակման պահին 12 հզ. կմ2 էր, բնակչությունը՝ 700 հզ., 1919 թ-ին՝ համապատասխանաբար՝ 60 հզ., 961,7 հզ. կմ2, մայրաքաղաքը՝ Երևան:
Հարյուրամյակների ընդմիջումից հետո կրկին վերականգնվեց հայոց անկախ պետականությունը: Հայաստանի անկախության հռչակումը շրջադարձ եղավ հայ ժողովրդի քաղաքական և հոգևոր մշակութային կյանքում։ Դրանով փակվում էր հայ ժողովրդի ողբերգական և հերոսական դրվագներով հարուստ նոր պատմության ժամանակաշրջանը, և սկսվում էր նորագույն հայկական պետականությունների պատմության դարաշրջանը։
Հանրապետության հռչակմանը նախորդել են Սարդարապատի, Բաշ Ապարանի և Ղարաքիլիսայի հերոսամարտերը:
«Սարդարապատի, Ղարաքիլիսէի և Բաշ Ապարանի ճակատամարտերուն մէջ իր տարած անօրինակ յաղթանակներով հայ ժողովուրդը տիրացաւ ազատ եւ անկախ ապրելու անփոխարինելի բարիքին։ Այդ ճակատամարտերն եղան պատճառ, որ տաճիկները հարկադրւեցին դաշինք կնքել հայերի հետ եւ ճանաչել Հայաստանի անկախութիւնը»,-գրել է այդ մարտերի հերոսներից մեկը՝ Դրոն:
Գրող, հասարակական գործիչ Ավետիս Ահարոնյանն ասել է. «Եվ թշնամին, որ մի քանի անգամ ավելի կորուստներ ունեցավ, երկար ժամանակ պիտի հիշե այդ (Սարդարապատի) ճակատամարտը, ինչպես պարսիկները՝ Ավարայրը (451 թ.), և արաբները՝ Վարդանակերտը (703 թ.): Արդարև, այդ երեք հերոսամարտերը մեր պատմության ալեծուփ ծովից դուրս ցցված գրանիտե ժայռեր են, որոնց վրա երեք անգամ հայ հայրենիքի թշնամիների կատաղության ալիքները փշրվեցին»:
1918 թ-ի մայիսի 26-ին՝ Անդրկովկասյան սեյմի լուծարման օրը, իր անկախությունն է հռչակել Վրաստանը, մայիսի 27-ին՝ Ադրբեջանը: Մայիսի 28-ին Թիֆլիսի Հայոց ազգային խորհուրդն ընդունել է հռչակագիր, որտեղ ասված է եղել. «Անդրկովկասի քաղաքական ամբողջության լուծումով և Վրաստանի ու Ադրբեջանի անկախության հռչակումով ստեղծված նոր դրության հանդեպ Հայոց ազգային խորհուրդն իրեն հայտարարում է հայկական գավառների գերագույն և միակ իշխանություն»: Հունիսի սկզբին հրապարակվել է հաղորդագրություն. «Հայոց ազգային խորհուրդը, այն իրավունքների հիման վրա, որով նրան լիազորել է հայ ժողովուրդը, մայիսի 28-ին որոշեց հռչակել Հայկական պետության անկախությունը, հիմնեց Հայաստանի Ժողովրդավարական Հանրապետությունը»:
Հայաստանի առաջին հանրապետությունն գոյություն է ունեցել երկուսուկես տարի: Հայտնվելով միջազգային հակասությունների բարդ ու խառնակ հանգուցակետում, պարտվելով Թուրքիային, մշտապես ենթարկվելով Խորհրդային Ռուսաստանի ճնշմանը, լքված Արևմուտքի օգնությունից` Հայաստանի առաջին հանրապետությունը դադարել է գոյություն ունենալուց: Նրան հաջորդել է Հայկական Խորհրդային Սոցիալիստական Հանրապետությունը:
