Ներկայում աշխարհում ավելի քան 45 միլիոն մարդ գտնվում Է ստրկության մեջ, որոնց մեծ մասին պահում են Ասիախաղաղօվկիանոսյան տարածաշրջանում: Այդ մասին ասված Է Ավստրալիայի Walk Free Foundation հիմնադրամի զեկույցում:
Զեկույցի համաձայն՝ 2014 թվականից ի վեր ամբողջ աշխարհում ստրուկների թիվը 28 տոկոսով ավելացել Է:
Հիմնադրամի տվյալներով՝ Հնդկաստանում ստրկական պայմաններում են ապրում ամենամեծ թվով մարդիկ. շուրջ 18,35 միլիոն: Նրան հաջորդում են Չինաստանը (3,39 միլիոն), Պակիստանը (2,13 միլիոն), Բանգլադեշը (1,53 միլիոն) եւ Ուզբեկստանը (1,23 միլիոն):
Անազատ բնակչության առավել բարձր տոկոս Է արձանագրվել ԿԺԴՀ-ում, այն կազմում Է երկրի բնակչության ընդհանուր թվի 4,37 տոկոսը:
Walk Free Foundation-ի հետազոտության մեջ ժամանակակից ստրկություն ասելով հասկանում են մարդու շահագործման տարբեր ձեւեր, որոնց դեպքում նա հարկադրված Է լինում որեւԷ գործունեություն իրականացնել սպառնալիքների, բռնության, հարկադրման, դաժան վերաբերմունքի կամ խաբեական գործողությունների պատճառով: Ընդամենը «Ստրկության միջազգային ինդեքս» (Global Slavery Index) անվանումն ստացած զեկույցի համար հետազոտվել Է աշխարհի 167 երկրների իրադրությունը, հաղորդել Է «Ինտերֆաքս»-ը:
